Polling the Crowd..Am I overreacting?

So, DH and I celebrated our one year wedding anniversary yesterday and we still haven't gotten our wedding album.  I have been getting the run around from our photographer about it.  First, it was printed wrong so it had to be reprinted.  Then his assistant forgot to do something. Delay, delay, delay... Well, I called him over a month ago and he assured me it would be there within a week.  Still no album!  I'm usually a very even tempered person, but I'm starting to get fired up about this.  It was expensive and I don't think it should take this long.

So, do you think I'm overreacting?

How long did it take for you to get your wedding album?

Thanks!

  • We didn't do an album, but there's no way I'd be putting up with that sh!t.

I would be calling them every.single.day until it was delivered correctly.

  • You're not overreacting! It shouldn't take a year.

We didn't do an album, we bought the rights to pictures and I did one myself.

There's no way you should've waited this long for the album.  A few months, maybe, but definintely not a year.

  • I had the cd with images on it I. 2 weeks, but she said it could take 8-12. She just finished it quickly because starting 2 weeks after the wedding se had weddinGs every single weekend from may-September so she got our pictures done fast. I don't know how long it took to get the album, but I had made shutterfly ones in the meantime. A year is way to long.

  • Thanks everyone!  It's nice to know I'm not overreacting.  I called the photographer just now to ask about it.  Here's that conversation:

"I would really like to have the album now, our anniversary was yesterday."

Him- "Oh, I wish you would have called to remind me.  It has been sitting here."

    "WHAT?!?! Oh no you didn't!!"

  • You aren't overreacting at all! Time to report it to the Better Business Bureau - a year is absolutely too long.

  • We got married in October and we had our images and an album by Christmas. You have every right to be ticked. I would be hounding them every day. That is beyond ridiculous.

We got married July 23rd of last year.  We had our album and CDs of proofs within 3 months.  We ordered a coffee table book which took until late May/early June.  This was really only because the couple who did our photos had a preemie birth soon after our wedding and some other issues.  We got pretty close with them, so it was no big deal to us.  We ordered some extra prints as Christmas gifts and got them within 3 weeks of ordering.

  • I cant believe after waiting over a year for the album, they let it just sit them and wait for YOU to call THEM... some people are just so oblivious to the world

We had a horrible (but expensive!) photographer, and ours took almost a year as well.  I was sooo angry about it, but I am not one to complain much, so she didn't get the brunt of my anger.

She also told me that before she was going to have the album printed that she would let me stop by her studio to proof it first.  Well, she ended up sending it in to be printed without letting me see it first, and it was not up to my expectations at all!

On my wedding day she actually sent someone (other than herself!) to take our photos for the day.  She didn't tell me about this ahead of time, other than the night before at the rehearsal when she emailed me a "schedule" and it listed a different girl's name as the photographer.  It was too late to complain at that point and I figured I would give her the benefit of the doubt that she would be sending someone with the same level of experience.  Plus, I didn't want to get myself all stressed out the night before the wedding, so I let it go..

Our pictures turned out pretty crappy, too.  There are a few decent ones, but not at all what I was expecting for what we paid (a couple thousand $$$).  I swear I could have done a better job myself.  It was a nightmare.

So yeah, don't use Impressions by Ashley Lynn in Bismarck, ND! ;)

Sorry for the vent, but you reminded me of how pissed I was at our photographer (and still am).  Good luck getting your album.  I hope you actually get it soon, and I hope it's good quality.

  • One year is the standard around here. We were really happy when it only took 9 months to get our album.

But, I think that has more to do with the fact that there is 15 million people living in the metro NYC area. We went with a photographer based in Manhatten, we live on Long Island, so we knew that we were looking at a really long wait.

did your contract state that she could sub a different photographer.  Seems  like you had reason to think it would be her doing it.

As a photographer I think you're definitely not overreacting. Unless you chose a super-star celebrity photographer whose client list is 10 miles long there's no reason for it to take that long.

I usually get my stuff out to my clients easily within three months usually before.
