Good 3rd bday gift for DD that is not a typical toy/game/book?

I seem to have more ideas for DS than DD...My mom & I know their many aunts/uncles will send a ton of toys & games & puzzles (I did an amazon wish list that I know my mom & bro will look at and the other aunts always send toys their kids loved) so I'm trying to think of things for DD that are not typical toys, things that are not going to take up space & a million more pieces thrown around the house/playroom but that she'll really enjoy.

I think we're going to get them a table & chairs for our family room/kitchen area and I'm thinking of little sleeping bags for both of them. My mom got her this cute picnic basket and a basket for her tricycle and a puzzle  (and they'll both get books)... I plan to get them a few games & some other puzzles b/c they love them but I'm stumped on stuff specifically for her (he is getting hot wheels track set & cars and a tool set).

She is not really 'into' any one thing, she has some princess stuff, some doll stuff, they have a play kitchen... she doesnt tend to play with any one thing, she usually plays with whatever her brother is playing with or sometimes does the doll/mommy or kitchen thing.

Ideas?

What about the Fisher Price dollhouse or a Calico Critters dollhouse? My  LO is not a "girly girl" AT ALL but loves her Calico Critters house.

will look that up! i dont know calico critters...we do have a little people dollhouse & she rarely plays w/ it. I think her brother plays w/ it more.

  • Loading the player...
  • What about lessons (swim lessons, gymnastics, dance, etc.) or passes/memberships (zoo, museum, splash pad, kids play place).

DD is getting a new room for her birthday so no toys/games, etc. from us this year for her birthday.  She will get a new bedroom set, bedding, room decor, etc.

We got DD a booster car seat, swimming bag, shoes and hair accessories. Sleeping bag is a great idea!

  • My kids both got personalized sleeping bags and pillow pets for Christmas. Big hit. We also got DD a picnic table with umbrella for our patio and the kids really like that, too.

Where did you get the sleeping bags?

Thanks all...good ideas. We already have passes to museum& zoo and they're doing swimming lessons now. I'm planning to sign her up for dance in August which I guess could be a bday gift but does a 3 yr old really 'get' that as a gift? I am doing it regardless & he will prob be doing soccer (might put her in that too)...but maybe I could give her hte leotard & tights as a gift....hmmmm!

  • We've been giving this toy as gifts for all of DS's friends. Apparently, everyone loves it.

  • I tend to give them things they can grow into.  I think DD#1 got 7 or 8 boardgames.  She wasn't quite there yet, but I knew I'd wind up buying them down the road.  At 3 she (and my twins coming up on 3) are more enamored with a pile of stuff to tear into, anyway!

Is she in anything?  Swim, gymnastics, music, dance, etc?  If not, maybe that can be her gift.

Or do a mommy/daughter date somewhere-the zoo, water park, etc.

This is what I am moving towards.  The stuff is so cute and I know DD will love at many stages in the next few years.  Decent resale, too.

  • What about an experience gift, like signing her up for a dance class or swimming lessons, or a membership to a zoo or "please touch" museum?

  • Thanks all...as I said in post above we already have passes to museum, zoo, they're in swim lessons now & I'm plannign to sign her up for dance but I"m not too sure she would 'get' that as a gift, esp when her bro is simultaneously getting gifts that he can open...but it did spark a good thought, I'm going to give her the dance shoes & leotard for her bday, thanks!
