Trying to Get Pregnant

Cycle length the same after BC?

I've been on birth control pills for the last two years, so obviously the length between my cycles has been regulated by that. Before going on BC, my cycles were longer (30 something days on average). So while trying to figure out when I will ovulate now that I'm off pills, do I figure based on my cycles previous to BC?

Planning to start tracking my temp after buying a thermometer tomorrow. I JUST went off pills and finished my period several days ago, so I'm just getting in the swing of things while waiting to see a dr. for a preconception visit on the 18th. :-) Thanks for any help!

Re: Cycle length the same after BC?

  • It may take several months for your cycles to regulate after stopping BC. I highly recommend temping. If your cycle is a little out of whack from the BC then you can identify when you O from charting. When you get your BBT go ahead and start charting. A lot of us don't temp until after AF is gone since its not necessary during that time. Click on my FF link in my siggy and take the tutorials. They are so easy and so helpful. Good luck!

  • I've bEen off BC since nov 2011. Most of my cycles have been 28-30 days but I had 1 35 day cycle... There is no way to tell until a few months have gone by.
  • I agree with the PPs, also you could try using OPKs as they give you a heads up to when you might O in advance vs temping which confirms after it happens. A lot of ladies on here use Wondfo brand OPKs from Amazon. They are super cheap and you don't feel bad testing multiple times a day. My cycles have been everything from 30 days to 47 since getting off BC in Jan.

     Good luck!

  • My cycle was 30-35 days before BC.  Since going off BC last August, my cycles have been 27-30 days.  Also even on my normal 28 day cycles, I can O anywhere between CD 13 and CD 15 since my LP sometimes varies by a few days.  So I guess what I am trying to say is that predicting what day you will O based off of your cycles before BC will probably not be very accurate.

    PAIF/SAIF Welcome!

  • My cycles were totally different before BC and after. I have no idea when I O'd pre-birth control, but my cycles were always long and irregular. Post-BC they were far more regular (between 27 and 31 days) and I O at day 19ish. 30 days isn't a long cycle.

Some people regulate quickly after the pill and others take some time. My first few cycles off the pill were a fine length, but I had a short LP. 6 months later my cycles were completely normal and I conceived DS. Good luck.

  • My cycles before BC were pretty regularly 29 days.  It's taken my body *ages* to regulate after BC - and it's looking like my cycles are somewhere around 40 days now.  So there's really no way to tell!  I'm sure it's different for everybody.
