Toddlers: 24 Months+

Double sided Bed rail question

We are going on a trip for a family reunion next month, our two kids will be 16 months and 2.5 yrs at the time of the trip. Last month on a trip, I tried one of the bumper bed rails, and my son fell out of bed every night. And my youngest slept horrible in the pack and play. I was thinking about getting a double sided bed rail, and having the kids sleep together in one of the queen beds. Is this a crazy idea? I don't want to buy a toddler blow up mattress, because we don't have any other trips planned, and I thought then I could just reuse the bed rails whenever the kids go in their own big beds. Thoughts?

Re: Double sided Bed rail question

  • My 22 month old DD sleeps fine in a twin bed with a bed rail.  But I don't think putting the 2 kids together in a bed sounds like a good idea at all.  Could you and your DH each sleep with 1 child?  Or maybe put one of the kids on a blanket on the floor, for one or two nights that should be fine.

  • I'm not sure what a bumper bed rail is..(like the regular kind that sticks up & he still fell out?)

We are going on vacay this year & are going to try the pool noodle under the sheet trick on the beds but our kids are older (though the 2.5. yr old might be able to do it).

I think 2 kids in one bed would be tough (ours can't do it, they just play constantly and have never gotten to the point they actually slept...) so I would do each of you with a child or maybe get a floor nap mat or a peapod thing for the little one or something.
