C-sections

Back at work after 3weeks....

Hello,

This is my first post....I went back to work after 3weeks of having an emergency c-section due to severe pre-eclampsia. My daughter was born at 28 weeks and will be in the NICU for a while...I had to come back to work sooner than the 6-8 weeks that are given to heal. I needed to come back to work otherwise I wouldn't have any FMLA to spend with my daughter when she comes home.

Anyone been back to work after short rest after a c-section?

I live in NYC so taking the subway is a must everyday, any advice or words of encouragement? or even sympathy?  This really sucks so much!

I had to go back before 5 weeks and I had an emergency c-section as well.  I have desk job so it was not so bad.  Of course, I would have rather been home taking better care of myself but I had no other choice.  By the time I went to work I was completely off pain meds and just used advil.  Good luck to you and be kind to yourself and rest when you need too.

  • I haven't tried them and don't know much about them, but have you tried the binding belly bands for after birth/c-section?  May help with the bumpy subway rides.  I feel terrible that you are back at work, hang in there, it will be worth it when your LO is home from NICU and you can be home then too.  Also, if you need a stronger pain killer still I wouldn't hesitate to talk to your OB.

  • I went back after 5 weeks. It would have been sooner if he had lived since he was also a micro-preemie. I hope she has a short, unexciting stay in the NICU.

  • I would get a support belt/binder thing for sure. I didn't have to go back to work, but DD was transferred to a different hospital due to complications and that meant a lot of travel back and forth and a lot more being up and around than is recommended. I had no idea the support belt would help, but I felt instantly better.

  • I went back at 2 weeks pp - though I only work 3 days a week as a bread vendor. There was definetly alot of lifting and stacking crates but I took it slow and didn't have any issues.

I hope your little one is able to join you at home soon. Hugs!!

  • I'm so sorry, that must suck. Take it as easy as possible and hopefully your babe will be home sooner than later.

  • you definitely have my sympathy.   I wish I had some advice to help you through, but nothing practical to share.  Wishing you a speedy recovery and a fast reunion with your LO
