first u/s and question

So M and I saw our RE this morning for our first u/s.  He started the exam and looked very perplexed at the machine and then turned it for us to see.  Meet Baby A and Baby B is what he told us.  So it's official today, twins.

Baby A - 120bpm very strong heartbeat heard measuring 6 weeks 3 days

Baby B - 113bpm strong heartbeat heard measuring 6 weeks 2 days

We are very excited and now very excited I found you ladies as I know several of you have a lot of experience with twins.  I am just processing this information and staring at the sonogram pics and praying for two healthy babies.

My question is about the transition from the RE to the OB... My RE told us today to go ahead and make our first appointment with our OB for after the 16th of July (he plans to graduate us that day and didn't want us waiting several weeks to get in).  So I called my OB's office and I was told my first appointment with them is purely a blood test to confirm pregnancy.  After they get the results back they will call me to set up our first true appointment.  I asked if a co-pay was going to be needed for that appointment and I was told yes.  So then I asked even after a confirmation by an RE of pregnancy and u/s was that necessary and was told yes.  The lady seemed very annoyed that I was asking these questions and got really short with me.  I told her I simply was curious as it is 100% it is confirmed.  My question would be is this normal?  When you transitioned to the OB did you have to go back through all the confirmation testing again?  If so that is totally fine with me I just wish she would have been a little nicer in explaining this instead of talking to me like I was a moron.   (sorry became more of a rant but really rubbed me the wrong way)

Thank you so much in advance for your advice and experience ladies!

Re: first u/s and question

  • Yay Twins!!!!!

  • Loading the player...
  • this is typical but you can fight it if you want

Does the OB know you are coming over from  your RE office  that confirmed the Preganancy?   When our RE sent us to our MFM Dr. they did not require pregnancy test -  but we also fight things like that Like when i went for surgery or M went for surgery we tell them we are Gay and its impossible... so we argue  it .. Insurance does not care either way if you help them out or not ...

Since you are pregnant with twins are you considered HIGH RISK ( twin pregnancy from what we heard is considered HIGH RISK per our Re and our MFM regardless of age and the like this could be why they are asking for another preg test so they can see your hormone levels.

If you are not comfortable with the staff you encounter I strongly recommend either letting someone above them know or getting a new DR as you have to spend the next 9 months with these people and you have enough to deal with already this RE: pregnancy new baby etc and the last thing you need is a unwelcoming DR office.

We gave our Dr office so much feed back positive and negative that they actually use us for marketing strategies - because they wanted to appeal to the LGBT community here. Its awesome ...

In just a couple of days our TWINS will be ONE so if you have any questions feel free to ask away ... we are still learning also and there are amazing people on this board who have twin experience and preemie experience and the MULTIPLES board is good too

Thank you so much!  I love my OBGYN but the lady I spoke with today man I think today was just not her day.  I was just very confused since I completely explained we would be coming from our RE at almost 9 weeks pregnant when released and now confirmed with twins.   I may call them tomorrow and ask to speak to a nurse about what to expect our "first" visit and go about it that way to get more information.  I am totally fine with additional blood work to check any levels they want.  I was just put off when she said nope it is just to confirm pregnancy.

Needless to say I think I was a little more sensitive today as we had just found out, I was excited and then I felt like she burst my bubble a little.  I know we are no where out of the clear yet but dang let me be happy for today please.

Thank you again ladies for sharing with me your experience as I said I was just a little confused.

  • congrats!

Your OB's office will likely go through their standard protocol. I also encourage you to look for an MFM, to see in lieu of or in conjunction with your OB.
