Two Under 2

Question for those who have stayed in hotel with both little ones

We are travelling to the Bahamas in October. DD1 will just have turned 2 that week and DD2 will be 10 months old. The hotel does have metal cribs, but they are very large. We could fit one in our room, but not two. I really don't want to bring our pack n play, but I think we might have to.  For those of you who have stayed in hotels with both children, where did they sleep?

Re: Question for those who have stayed in hotel with both little ones

  • We have either brought pack n plays or asked for extra pillows and blankets and put them on the floor.  One night on the floor isn't going to kill them, if it was a week long vacation I'd consider bringing the pack n play. GL and enjoy your vacation!

  • I prefer to bring pack n plays for each child. We have used hotel pnp's, but they generally aren't as sturdy, and one time we had to get three different pnp's from the hotel before finding one that would  assemble. Ever since that trip, I have brought them for each child. However, these were road trips. If I were flying, I'd go with a hotel crib and bring a pnp.

  • Are the hotel cribs really that much bigger than a pack n play? It seems like if you can't fit two cribs then you would have a hard time fitting a crib and a pack n play.

  • Right now (at 19 months and almost 3) the 3 year old sleeps in a bed and our 19 month old happily still sleeps in a crib/pnp.

For awhile, they were both sleeping in cribs/pnp.

Some things you can consider.  If both cribs won't fit in the room, will one fit in the bathroom or closet?  We often use large bathrooms or closets for baby-sleeping rooms because they are darker and we can actually close the door and not have to tiptoe everywhere.  Right now we are renting a condo at the beach and my son is sleeping in a large walk-in closet in his PnP.  It has been awesome because it is pitch black for naps/overnight.

Can one baby sleep in the center of the second bed?  Or sleep between you in the king bed?

If you need a PnP but are flying and don't want to bring it, there are many cities with rental companies geared toward babies.  One is Baby's Away:  https://www.babysaway.com/

Lastly, for the older one you could probably do a floor bed.  My DD has a sleeping mat that she uses sometimes when there is no bed (she is too big for a PnP).  Her is made by Wildkin and is a nap mat.  www.wildkin.com

  • One last idea...  You could also look into getting a PeaPod.  They collapse small enough to fit in a suitcase and then you can also use it on the beach.  https://www.kidco.com/products-page/peapod/

  • Before DS: We'd get a room with 2 queen beds. DD slept with me in one, DH (lucky brat) got the other.  That worked fine until she fell out of bed and gashed her head on one trip.

Now, DD sleeps in a pack n play and DS sleeps in his rock n play.

  • Hi Ladies thanks for all of the suggestions. DD1 is a pretty wild sleeper, so we have never had her in the bed with us because I know she would fall out. I don't think she would settle down on the floor, and we will be gone for 5 nights. The cribs that they provide are much larger than a pack n play. There is a chance we could fit both in the room, but I would hate to get there and find out it isn't possible without having a backup plan. I wish we could bring the Rock N Play, but by 10 months I am sure she will have outgrown it.

Based on your suggestions I think we will either take the Pack n Play or we do have a little baby beach tent kind of thing that zips. I hadn't thought about that. Thanks again ladies!

  • We did a 2 queen bed suite DS was 5 months I think and DD was 21 months. I put Dd in the bed and lined the floor with pillows and stayed in the bed with her until she fell asleep. She was still sleeping in the crib at the time (at home) but I didn't want to bring 2 PnP and she did fine with the bed.

DS slept in the pack n play we brought with us. I did the same night time routine and they were fine (I was worried because the never sleep outside of our house).

The suite was great because they went to bed around 8pm and the room has to be quiet and dark but DH and I could be in the other room (living room area) and watch some tv without waking anyone..

  • For that age, we had a room that had a "kid bunk bed" area attached, and DD slept on the bottom bunk. DS slept in the playpen we brought with a room divider (so he couldn't see us). It was ......... not great.

First night: they cried for 2 hours (awful) and then slept till 9 am.

Second night: no crying, slept immediately, woke at 5 am (awful).

In fact, this was the first bad hotel experience we've had but we had never travelled to a hotel with LOs over 9 months old before. I don't even know the next time we'll be in a hotel, because I can't do that again. Seriously it might be when they are 5 years old OR when we can stay at someone's house with each to their own room.

  • PNP for sure, plus a crib or rented PNP. Now, DS sleeps in a twin bed so we bring a blow up bed.

  • I second the recommendation for a PeaPod for DD1.  Then I would get a crib for DD2.  The PeaPod might be able to fit in a closet...
