VBAC

My RCS birth story

The short version:  I had been waiting for this baby to turn out of a breech position in order to have a chance at a vbac.  I tried every technique out there.  Apparently my babies just like to sit breech (reason for c/s 1 and 2).  I wound up going into labor on Friday, June 29 around 2pm and Aaron was born at 7:26pm weighing 8lbs. 5oz. via repeat c/s.  Laboring until they could get my labs back and an OR was open for the c/s was so disappointing and hard work (contracting every 4-5 minutes).  The c/s procedure itself was definitely more stressful than my planned c/s the first time.  Recovery is going so much better so far.  I learned a lot about how to try and make the best of the experience.  Knowledge really is power and I feel so much better after doing my homework on everything.

Best of luck to all of you trying for your vbacs.  I hope you get your chance.  Remember, every experience is a new one and I hope that even if you had a bad experience the first time that your second experience (regardless vbac or RCS) is better than the first.

Re: My RCS birth story

  • Congratulations on your birth!  My Baby A is breech right now and I'm not feeling super hopeful that s/he will turn. What helped the most this time  in your view in terms of being prepared and making the RCS as good as possible?

  • I felt like knowledge was power the entire time.  Just like gathering knowledge for the vbac, I did the same for the RCS.  I took my biggest concerns and kept researching and asking friends and doctors what I could do in order to avoid the same pitfalls.  For example, I had the WORST gas pains during recovery - the entire recovery for my dd.  I kept doing my research and learned about how it's best to walk as soon as they let you.  I learned to be an advocate for myself and not just accept whatever is going on around me.  If your baby is still breech and you are interested in knowing, just page me on the board in a few days and I'd be more than happy to share all of my tips I learned going through this for my situation in case your fears were mine as well.
