? re. bassinet/pack-n-play safety for sleeping

We splurged on an organic crib mattress, then I realized I was planning to have baby in a bassinet in our bedroom the first few months. Now I'm rethinking it because there appears to be no federal regulations on bassinet safety (none that I can find). Also, a lot of what I'm reading says the crib is safest and does not recommend use of bassinet or other for sleeping. So now I'm thinking I might as well just place the crib in our bedroom for the first few months since we spent a good amount of money picking the safest options we could for that. Anyone knowledgeable in this area....are there safe bassinets/pack-n-plays/etc for sleeping? I did see that organic bassinet mattresses are available. Can anyone point me to recommendations for what to look for in regards to safety when buying a bassinet (or other). I found it tough to find any real sort of recommendations online, other than buy something with a wide base and don't buy something that rocks.

Thanks!

  • I would just plan on keeping the crib in your room for now.  Don't overthink it at this point, you never know what the baby will prefer.  You might end up spending money on an organic mattress for the pack and play and the baby hates it and ends up sleeping with you or preferring his crib.

  • I agree with PP.  We spent a lot of money on an organic mattress and bedding for his crib, but he's spent every night in bed with us!
