We still don't know if we will have a big party, or something for the closest friends only, but have to start planning anyways. We have obviously not planned the party yet, except that I will be making the cake, so I am curious what others are having on the menu. May give me some idea, if you don't mind sharing.
Thanks ladies!
Re: What is/was on the menu for your LO's Birthday party?
I have lots pinned on pinterest..
But for the most part we are doing hot dogs and hamburgers.
For snacks we will have individual seven layer dip and chips, an avacado/corn/tomato salad, potato salad, beans.
Dessert:
Fruit kabobs, mini banana splits, and cupcakes

We still have a couple of months to go so we don't have anything set in stone, but I'm pretty sure we'll do an outdoor BBQ for our friends and their kids and we might have one set of grandparents in town for that one, or we may do a family party on a different weekend or both, depending on when the grandparents come to visit.
DD is having two.
For the one in our current state w/ his family, I am having it catered. For $7 per person, we get BBQ, fried chicken, hush puppies, potato salad and baked beans plus tea and all of the paper products. Expecting 20 people.
In my home state with my family, we are having: shredded chicken sandwiches, sloppy joes, fresh fruit plate, meatballs, cheese tray, party potatoes, macaroni salad. Bottled water, Capri Sub and a few sodas.
We did a picnic style, and kept it pretty simple.
Pulled Pork Sandwiches (crock pot)
Baked macaroni and cheese
baked beans
Fruit salad
Potato salad
pasta salad
Iced tea, lemonade, bottled water and beer.
Worked out great, had 20 people but had WAY too much food.
We will be having:
fried chicken, rigatoni with sausage and peppers, cheesey potatoes, broccoli salad, tossed salad, pizza, fruit kabobs, some desserts and appetizers (spinach dip with bread and veggies, and taco dips with tortillas). And of course, cake!
DD1's birthday we had a taco bar. I just cooked up the meat the day before and popped it in the crock pot to stay warm the day of, and set out any toppings you could think of along with chips and salsa and cheese dip. I made cupcakes for dessert.
DD2's party will be in the fall, so I think we'll do a chili bar and maybe some shredded BBQ sandwiches for the chili haters like me

DD2 Sept 2011
We are planning on a very similar menu but are doing fruit skewers and a garden salad instead of the potato salad plus we will add a few snacks on each table (chips & salsa, pretzels, goldfish). We are doing a lemonade theme so will have raspberry lemonade, regular lemonade and a spiked lemonade for the adults in addition to beer. I am going to be making pink lemonade cupcakes for dessert.

Simple BBQ b/c I don't want my DH slaving away over the grill - Hamburgers/Veggie Burgers/Hotdogs
Lots of side salads - pasta salad, coleslaw, potato salad, some kind of green salad, fruit salad, maybe corn on the cob ...
Sweets - Cake, Ice Cream, Maybe jelly bellies and other candy in the color theme we are going with ...
We ALWAYS have way too much food but that's just how we do it in our family!
I had a lovely menu planned, thanks to Pinterest, but I got stressed out and bought a sandwich tray from the grocery store deli instead.
We also had bean salad, a fruit tray, veggie tray, and cupcakes. Lemonade, tea, and water to drink.
LO's birthday is next week--we are going more the simple route (about 25 people, family and a few close friends), the party is 3-5 pm so kind of in between meals (done on purpose so I don't have to plan a full meal).
We are just doing snacks/appetizers--mini mac and cheese, chicken skewers with herb dipping sauce, fruit and veggie trays with dip, chips and guac/salsa, etc. cupcakes for dessert of course!
