related clicky to previous - daycare and cups

Okay, also, what kind of cup does your daycare (center) have toddlers use?  Looking at the previous poll, I see some people haven't even given a regular cup.  It seemed odd to me at first that our daycare switches to open cups in the toddler room.  Our toddler room technically goes from 14months to 30 months, although most of the kids in there are on the older side of that.  I think at most daycares, the toddler room probably uses sippys?  Honestly, if the daycare hadn't insisted on giving him untensils at 9 months or so, I probably wouldn't have thought to do it either...  (Is that more of a FFFC? Smile)

  • I'm just surprised they would even force this issue since it seems like there would just be so many accidents!  My son goes to an in home daycare, so I know that is different, but I know the three year old even uses a sippy there.

  • Our toddler room goes from 12-24 months, and they use sippies for all the kids.  I am not sure if they switch it up in the 2s room or not.

My FFC:  If they're not bothering to teach her to use a regular cup at DC I am not going to bother with it at home.

LOL!  DH and I realized that Nate will be 19 months old this next week!  DH gave me a high five and said, "We kept him alive!!"  I think that's how we feel about a lot of things.  They learn this stuff eventually right?  I don't see any kid in my elementary school still bringing a sippy cup to school...

  • I don't even know...DS uses bottles for milk--will not take milk any other way. He drinks water with a sippy or straw cup and can use a regular cup but usually dumps the contents on himself so we don't really go with that kind as much. I know they use sippys for some kids at daycare and we gave them a straw cup to use. But for all I know they've gotten him to use a regular cup.

  • We use sippy cups primarily, he now refuses straw sippys he is too lazy to deal with the anti reflux part of the straw. We have some smaller open cups for him to drink out of but we only give him water that way I don't care if he spills. He usually does ok but sometimes he gets too excited and tilts too high and gets an impromptu bath. Since using open cups though he is better about setting his sippys down gently so as not to dump them.

C's DC provides sippies - a nice take and toss one.  It stays there are they wash them after each use during the day.  SIL thinks it's crazy that C "has" to use DC's sippy and can't use his own (a straw cup) but I pointed out to here that would mean 120 sippies from every kid in the DC to wash 5 times a day.  Can you imagine all of the little pieces, lol?!

:)  In the infant room (which Nate was in until we left for summer at 17 months!), the kids all provided two cups and they washed them all every single day.  I would think it would get old!  It's a huge center too and they don't have a dishwasher!!  In the older classes, they use styrofoam and toss them at the end of the day (which causes me to gasp, because oh.my.god., the environment!)

Yikes!  Could you ask them if they've considered the take and toss then?  That would HAVE to be cheaper aside from more earth-friendly than the styrofoam. In our infant room, we just had to bring and take home the sippies each day so they didn't have to deal with the parts.  I can imagine lots of valves and straws got lost at yours!

DC supplies a plastic cup with a plastic lid (non-spill proof) for breakfast, lunch, and snacks but we leave a straw cup for water she can have through out the day.
