it's been forever

I check in every so often with you ladies, but I haven't posted in a really long time. I will comment on posts, but that's about it. Anyways, for those of you that remember me...I wanted to post my birth story.

It was about 7pm on the 12th & I was at the mall with my momma, having an Auntie Anne's pretzel. We walked around & I started feeling "wet." This is not what I would call normal discharge. But I had to pee, so we went to the bathroom so I could do that & check on things. I did & when I wiped, it was tinged pink, but it was not "flowing" or even "trickling" out. It was just slowly soaking my undies. We decided to walk around a little bit more to see if maybe I could jump start some contractions. Sure enough, I started having them about 11 mins apart. We decided I'd better call in & see what we should do. They wanted me to come in for leaking, thinking maybe my water had broken but I just didn't know. Reluctantly, I went in, mostly because my mom was with me & she was really pushing the issue.

We got to L&D about 9pm. I was in an observation room for about 5 minutes when my doctor came in, checked me, called me at 3cm & told my nurse to admit me. I was SHOCKED. & then, when they admitted me & moved me to a birthing room, I was still in disbelief. I texted my husband & told him he should probably get out of work (he works 3rd shift & had gone in early). He asked me if it was really time. I was assuming that it was?since I was admitted & they never admitted me any of the other times I went in.

My nurse came in & told me that he would let me go until the morning on my own & if I hadn't progressed or my water hadn't officially broken, he would break it & probably start pitocin somewhere shortly after. I was REALLY hoping to progress more on my own. I didn't sleep until about 4 when my nurse came in & took the monitors off me. They were so uncomfortable & on top of pregnancy sleep being shitty anyways & that friggin bed, that's the only thing that let me catch some sleep til about 6. After that, she checked me. I was at a 4.

She let me take a shower & told me shortly after he would be in to break my water. He broke it at 7:26. He didn't want me to get an infection, since he thought I'd been leaking, so he started me on pitocin about an hour later. I labored like that until about 10:45 & finally caved & got the epi. After that it was pure bliss. My left hip still felt four or five of the contractions, but they tilted me up on my right side so it would even out & eventually I was what I would call completely numb. It was amazing. & just like that - I went from 4cm to 10cm in about an hour and a half. I just needed to relax?which I could NOT do during those pitocin contractions. They kicked my ass. I pushed for an hour & seven minutes. During which, DH almost passed out. Not because he saw anything or something crazy like that - because he's hypoglycemic & forgot to eat!! It was pretty funny. He was in worse shape than I was?& I was pushing a baby out! Anyway, when she came out, they put her right on my tummy & I bawled like a baby. DH cut the cord. After that?it's been bliss.
