hair, meals and showers

Since becoming a mother, my hair has been a braid or a bun every day, some entire "meals" consist of a couple of slices of cheese from the fridge and a some of my daily showers require me to go to a relative's house so baby can be held into calmness while I have enough time to wash. Also, my bathroom floor may smell of milk from when baby is crying her eyes out making me leak before I can get the bra and breast pads on after a home shower.

How are you hair, meals and showers going?

Re: hair, meals and showers

  • Omg i feel so lucky. As far as hair goes i wash in the afternoon after i know lo is fast asleep. I wait about 30 min etc to make sure. Then when husband gets home i straighten it (this is an every other day sometimes 2day process). If im just to exhausted i have a curly ponytail. I rush out and get my errands done real quick and to get out of house (i live in phx,az and hate taking ava out in the heat after 10am. As far as meals go. I steam my veggies a couple days ahead so i have that two day break ofnot having to cook too much and keepingkitchen cleaner for longer :). Then dh will grill chicken or whatever for dinner and during day i eat smal healthy snacks like a string cheese and 6almonds or 1/2cup of cottage cheese with cut up tomatofor really healthy or grapes for tasty :). And i will eat a sandwich for lunch that i make ahead while dd is asleep during one of her morning naps. She always likes to be awake when she knows its lunch time and i have to eat holding her :(. Of course my dd is only 4weeks. Im sure i will be singing a different tune when shes 8weeks and awake more.

  • Yeah, that is pretty much me!  Now that I am back to work I am taking showers at night after LO goes to bed so I can take one in peace.  I am also eating lunch at work so that is uninterrupted too.  My hair was always in a bun or ponytail everyday!  I just got my hair cut to my shoulders so it's not so in the way if I want to wear it down.  Ahh, the joys of motherhood! :)

  • I have an amazing church community and we are still having meals delivered so no cooking yet though it is ending soon.. we have been sooo spoiled! Showers... it may take me until 3 pm but I get one every day.

  • I have learned to take the quickest showers ever... I don't like LO to cry more than five minutes if that so I can now shower in 5 minutes.  I have a toddler so I have to make lunch but again that is done in 5 minutes or a quick outing to McD (don't judge we will break this habit when LO calms down!)

Oh and it is summer so my hair would be up in a ponytail even if I didn't have LO, it is just too HOT here!

  • If I'm lucky I wait until DS is asleep to shower. But if I have to get somewhere in the morning then he just lays in his bouncy seat and cries when I'm in the shower.  Then when I get out I hold him while I put make up on one handed.  Yea I am dreading going back to work in 2 weeks and having to do this every morning. I hope he eventually can lay in his seat and let me talk to him and that will calm him instead of being held, but I don't see that getting any better.  It is even getting to the point where only DH and I can soothe him if we are around. Anyone else he just fusses until they give him up.

  • Actually I have luckily never had a problem being able to do it all with the girls. i am the master of eating with one hand!  And to shower and actually do my hair DD2 is content in her swing or chair and DD1 is really good at self play, she has a play kitchen that she spends hours playing at. The bigger issue is if I am feeling to lazy to actually do my hair haha.
  • My hair is short so dealing with it isn't a problem. Managing to shower & eating is though. I'm not comfortable (yet) showering while DD is asleep unless DH is with her. And meals.....yeah that's the worst. Like throwing a few tater tots in the oven is a 'meal'. I'm lucky if I get to do that. DH is the one who went grocery shopping (without asking what I would like). The main things he bought that I can eat (I'm vegetarian)? Tater tots & soup. Soup. Seriously. In 90 & 100 degree weather the man buys soup. *shakes head* Would have been better off with some Oriental Ramen noodles or something.
  • When DH went back to work when LO was 1 week old I would just bring the bouncer into the bathroom and plop it on the floor with DS in it. He wpuld sit quietly or fall asleep while I showered. The sound of the water would lull him to sleep most of the tike. As he got older he would start sleeping less while I showered but there were only a few times when he would start whining and then I would take the quickest shower ever before he started full on crying. Now I either take a shower before he wakes up in the morning and bring the video monitor with me in the bathroom or I plop him in the bouncer like I used to in the bathroom but only after he has been fed and changed in the morning. That way he is mich more content since he doesnt sleep as much as he did weeks ago. He is really good and i am able to shower and wash my hair and do my makeup and everything to get ready as I normally would before I had him. The first few weeks we had him home I would be so occupied with him that I would forget to eat and wpuld have very small infrequent snacks once or twice throughout the day. Now I will eat after he eats and is content sitting in his bouncer for a while and generally am able to get bdeakfast lunch and dinner in

  • My shower is 5 minutes long.  I bought a shampoo/conditioner in 1 and I wash my body in 2 minutes. No time for special face wash.  I often forget to brush my teeth :/. My hairstyle is tied in a bun after the shower.  I usually get in once he is settled into his morning nap after his bath.  On the weekends, DH takes lo while I shower.

I cooked a few times but most days I eat at my MILs (walk a block to her house almost everyday) or DH cooks.  I have cereal for breakfast 90% of the time and eat leftovers or egg salad(DH makes) or deli meat sandwich.  I hit the keurig in the morning for coffee.

LOL at the BM on the bathroom floor.  This happened to me too!

  • My hair is a hot mess! It is REALLY long and takes so long to dry that I usually let it air dry and it's kind of a wavy natural look. Plus, I haven't been to get it cut/colored in awhile and have some major roots going on. Luckily, my neighbors have been dying to babysit for LO, so I've made a hair appointment for this Friday and they're going to watch her for me.

We are trying to use Babywise so that our day is more predictable. I'd say for the last 2 weeks, I get up 15 minutes before LO (7:45am) so I can eat breakfast, then wake her up (8:00am) and feed her. We then take a walk before it gets too hot and most of the time she falls asleep in her carrier. When we get back, I put the carrier in front of the bathroom door while I shower and tend to myself. She generally eats again at 11am, 2pm, 5pm, 8pm and naps in between. I usually eat after she does at 11am. A lot of times, I actually eat while she's eating (which takes skill lol). We still haven't eaten all of our frozen stash because of visitors bringing food and cooking for us. DH has also been a big help with dinners. We do a lot of grilling these days.

My hair is short so I don't really have to do much other than brush it when I get ready.  I shower when DD naps.  Sometimes it is first thing in the AM sometimes it is in the afternoon and sometimes I have to wait till DH comes home in the PM.  If I am alone I put her in the swing.  I froze a bunch of meals and we still have a few left.  DD is doing much better now than she was a few weeks ago but it never fails that she wakes up as soon as I make myself something to eat.  I either eat 1 handed or I wait till she goes back down for a nap.

  • My hair is in dire need of being trimmed. It is always up in a ponytail or braided. My SIL is a hairdresser so I hope to get a haircut soon. :)

I take my showers in the evening when DH gets home so he can watch LO. I probably stay in the shower longer than I should, but it's one of the rare moments where I have time to myself to decompress!!

We have tons of premade meals from family so this works great for dinner. However, breakfast and lunch for me are quickies. My breakfast go to is wheat toast with peanut butter and bananas and honey!! lunch usually leftovers or another PB sandwich or cereal.

  • Yup - I'm rocking the ponytail!

For food, I make a lot of stuff at the weekend when DH is around (tuna salad, hard-boiled eggs, chicken salad, lentil salad with roasted vegetables) so that during the week I can st least have a good lunch (even if it's one-handed while I'm swaying with DD!).

And showers... I take those at night with DD1.

  • We have our routine down pretty well now. When we first wake up I bf her then put her in her seat on the bathroom floor and talk to her while I shower. Getting ready is difficult some mornings so i have a few new mommy hairdo's that i can do quickly, one of them being a braid. As far as meals go, as long as she's fedfirst she will usually sit in her seat just long enough for us to scarf a meal down
