We just got back from a weekend trip where we visited every potty in the city. We bought one of those travel rings (cars one from Toysrus) that folds up but it's really flimsy and LO fell in once. It was very traumatic for him to fall in but won't let me hold onto him while he goes, frustrating.
Is there something better we can get? More sturdy? How long do you have to carry around the insert until big public potties aren't a problem anymore?
Re: Potty seat for public restrooms? what do you use?
We use this:

It folds up so it fits in my large purse easily. It has rubber grips on the sides. I used it in a public restroom yesterday and had no issues.
I should change that to say my DD USED it. . . I've mastered not needing a potty seat for quite a few years no, thank you very much. . . .
We have two cars seats that fold. My dd is 27 lbs, is weight an issue? We've never had any problems.
This. We love it. DD no longer wants me to hold onto her so this works great. Technically the only thing the portable seat is touching is the toilet seat and if that still bothers you put a seat cover before placing the seat. It also works on the floor. You just snap the legs into place and put a plastic bag with paper towels in it. I always make sure to wipe it down when we're home.
Someone on here a few weeks ago mentioned carrying around sticky notes to cover up the auto flush sensor.
I got the potette plus too. Haven't used it yet as my DD refuses to sit on any potty at the moment. It does look very cool and sturdy though and folds up small.
We stand our boys on the seat if they have pee. Didn't like the fold up seat either. They didn't feel comfortable on it. They rarely have to poop in a public potty but if they do we hold them sitting.
Another vote for the Potette Plus. We wipe it down and transport it in a plastic bag in DS' backpack.
