DH and I have friends who named thier DD Fiona. it is a cute name and I really dont think that kids will make that stretch, unless you DD comes out green . I think it is a beautiful name.
Hey I just met you, and you're my baby. This is your family, we're kind of crazy...
My best friend named their little girl Fiona and she is in 1st grade now, the kids actually think its cool that she is named after Shrek and they never make fun of her. I think the name is so pretty.

I love it. Those movies came out years ago and it will be even longer ago by the time your DD is in school. My grandma was Frances too... we used her MN Lucille for DD
I never post on the boards, but thought I'd comment with this perspective: I really love the name Fiona. My husband vetoed it immediatiately bc of Shrek. I asked my 5 & 7 year old nephews what they thought of the name, and they both said that the only Fiona they knew was the Fiona from Shrek, but that it is a cool name and they didn't think anyone in their classes would ever make fun of a little girl bc she was named that.
I really like Fiona. I don't know that our kids will know much about Shrek. I wouldn't worry about it. There's always the possibility that some character in a movie in the future will have one of our children's names and they'll get made fun of for it. Not much you can do about it really. And I wouldn't worry about it. Kids will get made fun of for something even if they have a name that's tease-proof.
I love the name Fiona, I think it is gorgeous and yest the Shrek association is there, but I don't think that is necessarily a bad thing. Fiona's character in Shrek was tough. She didn't need Shrek to rescue her. In one of the movies she uses karate to break out of a tower. How awesome is that?

Same situation here: I love the name Fiona but DH immediately vetoed because of Shrek. I don't think it's that big of a deal though, I'm pretty sure they're done making Shrek movies and I doubt that all of your LO's classmates would know the movie. And even if they did, she's still a princess!
Oh, and to give another bit of perspective, my legal name is Ariel, but I've always gone by Elli. I was 7 years old when The Little Mermaid came out.
To this day, when I give my legal name for any reason, there's probably a 50% chance that person will say "Ariel, like the mermaid?"
It doesn't bother me; in fact I *loved* it as a little girl. And at least people know how to spell my name as a result! So I wouldn't let Shrek deter you from picking the name you want. Good luck convincing DH though
Re: fiona
While I think Fiona is a beautiful name, I do think she would get made fun of because of Shrek.
What about Flora?
It's a beautiful name. I wouldn't be worried about potential association with the Shrek movies, anyway. Those were great movies!
