Fitted help

Hello everyone. I apologize for the newb question, but like many new CD ladies I'm trying to make everything click. When I originally decided to start CDing (5 months ago) I decided on Kissaluv fitted and bummis covers. I felt it made the most sense to me and my needs. Fastforward to my daughter being born, and I went the disposable route because I moved and didn't have access to a washer dryer. I have one in my apartment now, and would like to try.

Here is my question. I am on so many of the FB groups and I see these ADORABLE fitted diapers with the most amazing designs and stuff. They are priced high obviously for the design and fabric used but I don't understand why. Don't all fitted diapers need covers? Some of these are like $28 for a cute little fitted diaper that will just get covered up, right? Am I missing something? I appreciate your help and explanation.

Re: Fitted help

  • Hehe, that one totally baffled me too! I think that one gets us all. Many mamas allow their LOs to wear their fitteds without covers if they are just hanging out at home. Hence the cute prints. I've never understood the impulse to spend so much on them though. I like GMD workhorses and they are just $10. :)

  • Yeah..it's a guilty pleasure thing. Whatever makes you happy to spend your fun money on.

We all have it. Mine is makeup and house stuff. For some people it's diapers.

We have used kissa's fitteds from birth, size 0 and then the old size 1 when she grew into them. I like fitteds for functional reasons and am just not interested in collecting fashion diapers (not that there's anything wrong with that).
  • The fitteds I have that I would consider "high end" (Old School Cool, Twinkie Tush) have so many layers that we go coverless at home with no problems. By the time DS starts to feel damp on the outside, it's time for a diaper change anyway (2-3 hours). We used KL0 in the newborn stage and they got soaked almost immediately, so we definitely could have never gone coverless with those.

  • For me, I find the more expensive fitteds to be much more absorbent for my LO.  She's able to go coverless around the house.  They are also the best I've found for her overnight.  I did not have as good of an experience with less expensive fitteds (not to say they don't work for others, they just weren't that great for my needs).
  • I have yet to find a commercial brand that are as absorbent as the "fancier" fitteds.

As for just covering them up, you must get strange looks when you wander around in public sans pants when you wear your cute underwear.
