Anesthesia?

Has anyone had to put their baby under anesthesia? How did they do?

My son was too little when he was discharged from the hospital to be circumcised by my OB. So upon discharge, we were referred to a pediatric urologist. Well the only pediatric urology group in Richmond and within 90 miles does not take my health insurance (sad because I work at the hospital that I delivered at).

A pediatric surgeon is covered...however, like all surgeons....he has to go under anesthesia.

I am so nervous!

Aiden is 4 months old (8weeks adjusted) and a little over 12 lbs.

    DD arrived at 25w2d and had her first surgery under anesthesia about 4 weeks later at @2 lbs., the second surgery 1-2 weeks after that, and a third surgery a couple of mo. later at @4 lbs.  I would like to tell you that I was less anxious as she got bigger and older, but I never really "relaxed."  Putting the baby out causes mommies' hearts to flutter.  That is natural.  GL, mama!  We are here for you.

    My son had a hernia surgery on his due date. he was 4lbs & 6 weeks old adjusted. they put him under anestsia the same way they put anyone else under, he just had to have a cardiologist on hand because he has a heart problem. he was extubated the same night. sometimes they do spinal blocks to help relieve pain, but my sson couldnt have it because he has a dimple.
    My little pumpkin was born at 34weeks, weighing 3lbs, due to severe IUGR & Unexplained Placental Insufficiency. He spent 49 days in the NICU. Lilypie Premature Baby tickers imageimageimageimageimageimage

    My daughter had a hernia repair at 2 m old, she was a little over 6 lbs. She did awesome even though it was definitely scary to me.

    We're in the same situation! We didn't circ because it would've happened the day he was due to come home, and he had already been so traumatized by his last two ROP exams (and started bradying after those and falling apart with his bottle feeding) that we decided to wait. I didn't realize at the time it meant he'd have to undergo general anesthesia. If he didn't also have a mild hernia that will probably have to be corrected too, I'd be trying to talk hubby out of the circumcision!
