Dilation ? and help moving babies head down

Ok ladies I am more of a lurker than a poster here. But i need some input please. I had my 38 week appt yesterday and i was 1 cm dilated. I asked about sweeping my membranes. But she would rather not bc i was positive for group B strep. She said it could cause infection. I have been taking EPO orally and started vagianlly last night. I also have been drinking RRLT 2 daily. So she said she would agressivly check me, she said she put her finger.through my cervix and streched it some. Anyone have any success with this helping? I went for a walk this morning but it is so dang hot here, supposed to be 102 today. I have started the exercises on the birthing ball. And sex every other day. She said if we could just get babies head to move down it would help me dilate more. So any advice on other ways to help with this? She is going to schedule a RCS for 41 weeks. But if i am dilated before then we can cancel. We also talked about a foley induction. But I would have to. be more dilated than what i am now for her to try. Hoping I get to post my successful VBAC story soon.

Re: Dilation ? and help moving babies head down

  • Have you thought about trying breast pumping and/or nipple stimulation?  What about acupuncture?  The odds are good by 41 weeks something will happen so hang in there! Try to stay patient.

  • I would try nipple stimulation, which studies have found can improve your bishop score.  Do you have a breast pump?  How about walking around the mall for an hour, that way you can avoid the heat?

It is weird to me that your doctor is fine with stretching your cervix but not doing a membrane sweep, since they seem pretty comparable in terms of the potential to break your water and expose your baby to GBS.

Anyway, you have three weeks--a lot can happen so try not to stress too much (easier said than done, right?)  GL
