Trying to Get Pregnant

spotting questions( sorry if this grosses anyone out)

I've been off of ortho tri cylcen lo since November 2011, after I went off of that my cycle returned to normal no problemos.  Every cycle has been running smoothly up untill June and July. I keep getting really light brown spotting right before my period. June it was heavy and then my period started the 5 days early.Yesterday,  I noticed I had very light brown spotting, and then it went away nothing today till about  an hr ago when i noticed it when i made a trip to the bathroom but it isn't heavy at all and seems to come and go.Anyone else experienced this type of early spotting when they are expected to get there period  later in the week.I'm not suppose to be getting my period untill July 6th. So this to me seems kind of early to be getting spotting is it? Prior to being on birth control if I every got spotting which I rarely did it was usually one day before I was set to get my period and I got my period the following day.Since being off the birth control pill my period cycles seem to be getting earlier and earliler with timing anyone else had this happen to them? .This is my second cycle of early spotting before a period anyone have any experience on this and how long did you wait before getting your obgyn to check it out? normally, I wouldn't be soo anxious about this but with ttc it has me anxious even though I read it can be totally normal to get this from time to time. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Re: spotting questions( sorry if this grosses anyone out)

  • I have quite a few days of spotting before my period.  Feel free to look at my charts.  My MD knows all about my cycles and it not concerned at this time.

  • Are you charting?  It's not for everyone but I would recommend it if you wanting more insight into what is going on with your cycles.  With that information, you will be able to identify if you do have problems with your cycle, or really LP, being too short.

But yes, it is very common for your period to be different once you come off of birth control.  I have had spotting before my period lately when I have never had it before.  If its just these last two cycles, I would not be making a call to my OB yet.

    Good luck!

  • (GhostMonkey)  I know spotting is not the first day of my period I'm not an idiot. I was saying that lately I've been getting spotting a lot earlier then I use to be fore my period my cycle hasn't been like clockwork since coming off of the birth control pills in November. For example this week I'm suppose to get my period at the end of the week and had spotting a little yesterday and today a little normally, if I get spotting at all it's usually the day before my period and then I get my period. This type of spotting is different for me since being off the birth control pill and it's only happened these past two cycles that I've had. Thanks, for your comment but I'm not idiot I don't need to research how my body works. I just wrote asking advice on if someone out there has had this happen to them when coming off of ortho tri cyclen lo because this isn't typical spotting for me.

  • Nope not charting yet, Thinking about it.

Yeah, I wasn't expecting this when I came off my ortho tri cyclen lo back in november 2011, because before being on birth control I never had brown spotting issues.Yeah it's just been June and July. I guess if I have it happen for a third cycle a call to the obgn wouldn't hurt.

Nowhere did I call you an idiot. Get the chip off your shoulder.

You asked a very basic question that if you have done any research you should know the answer. Asking said question suggests you have not done any.

It's normal for cycles to change. I never spotted. Then I did. Then I didn't again. Then I did.

I didn't say you did call me an idiot but you were making it sound like I didn't know anything about my body from the question that I asked and that I was an idiot for asking the questions that I asked everyone on here. Common sense is all you need have to know that spotting doesn't mean that your period has started. You don't need to research information to know anything about when your period really does start that just makes you sound stupid. Also, I know cycles can change from time to time but I've had this back to back which isn't usual for me.Not sure what your cycle sitaution is like but of course not everyones cycles are the same.

    1) your snark towards ghost monkey was uncalled for. Her response was informative and answered your question. She was not rude.

    2) if you're not charting how do you know what day you are due for your period? You can only know that if you know when you O'd and the only way to know that is to chart. So I guess you haven't done all the research and maybe you don't know you're body all that well.

To answer your question: spotting is normal and most of the time no cause for concern. I have had it happen on and off for years both on and off BC.

That was uncalled for. She answered your question politely and didn't give any criticism or even snark. She simply gave you a suggestion. Also, proofread much? I may not be a grammar/spelling/run on sentences nut, but it does make it very hard to follow your train of thought and effectively answer your questions when there is a wall of crazytext with no commas.

As for your Q, yes spotting is normal, and it can take a good long while for cycles to regulate after BC, and they can appear normal at first and change, and do all sorts of crazy sh!t. Your hormones are probably still trying to regulate themselves, and maybe the birth control has changed your "normal." I went off BC a month before you did, and my cycles are still wonk-tastic. Sometimes I spot, sometimes I don't. My midwife isn't concerned as of yet, simply because it hasn't been a year since I stopped BC.

I hope everything works out for you soon!

    1) You said it yourself- cycles change. So even though you say it's "unusual" for you to spot in back to back cycles, things can change.

    2) Cycles are usually weird coming off BC.

    3) Please use paragraphs and no run on sentences. It makes it very hard to follow your posts.

  • Because Ghostmonkey kept telling me that spotting doesn't count as my first day of my period when I know that. Then she went on to say you should do more research about it through fertility friend or something. I've never charted before so I don't understand why people on here get worked up saying you should research chart etc. etc or you don't know your body that well that is bs.

First of all, before TTGP, I didn't know that spotting didn't count as the first day of my period and I don't consider myself an idiot.  I think GM was just stating a fact and really not implying anything else by it.

People are suggesting research because there is SO much to learn while TTC.  Seriously - TONS of info.  For example, just because I have regular cycles (28-29 days), I learned by charting my BBT that I ovulate on different days each month.  One month it might be day 13, and the next it might be day 19.  That's super important info when I'm trying to make sure to have sex during my fertile window.

I agree with all this. I have a kid and charted for that pregnancy and until two weeks ago had no idea spotting didn't count as CD1 bc I'd never in my life had spotting. I consider myself fairly smart. Simmer down...GhostMonkey was not rude to you at all. You are making something out of nothing.

I guess she was right- looking at your calendar won't tell you when your period is due. You could "guess" based on previous cycles... But you could have a 25 day cycle followed by a 40 day cycle and have nothing be wrong except that you O'd late. I NEVER had a cycle longer than 25 days.... Until last month when I did. There is no always and never when it comes to your body. GM was just suggesting that you read up. There is so much more to it than you can even imagine. 90% of women will come on this website and say "I had no idea... Xyz... Until I came here/went to fertility friend". It was valid advice.

Also- perhaps how defensive you got so quickly is a direct correlation to how you view yourself..........

I'm sure you do know your body best, however, cycles can change especially in the months following stopping birth control. Stress could impact your ovulation date making your period later. I'm sure some things could make it come early too.

    Best of luck!

Simmer down OP. You just answered your own question.
