1st bday party... Order of festivities?

We are having an outdoor bbq/pool party. Starts at 12:30.

We are going to eat first.  I'm thinking we should open gifts next, followed by breaking the pinata, and then let LO eat her smash cake last.  I know she will need a bath as soon as she eats her cake, so I thought I would leave that for last.

So, eat - gift opening - pinata - smash cake.

Does that sound good or should I switch something up?

That is kind of my plan (except no pi?ata)

Based on your start time, I think that would probably work.  I know you want to bath her after the cake, but depending on your venue, it might be better to do the cake after the gift opening, since everyone will be gathered around anyway.

More than likely, ours will be games-food-cake-playground.

  • That sounds good. I think we are going to do the same thing except the eating will be more like grazing the apetizer-style food we are making. We are not doing a "meal". So, eat, gifts, cake. I think we are only planning the party for 2-3 hrs. tops.

Good idea. Maybe I can bathe her while DH runs the pinata breaking.

  • We are doing food, gifts and then cake.  We don't have any games planned just catching up with family and everyone playing with the kid!

  • We are doing food-gifts-cake.  We don't have any organized games but will have some water toys set up in the backyard, which is where we will be eating.  I assume the kids would play in the water (water table, small kiddie pool, bubbles) while parents are eating and probably while A opens presents.
