Yesterday afternoon after Collin's 3rd poopie diaper of the day, I noticed his bottom was red. I put Desitin on. Last night before bed he had yet another poopie diaper and the diaper rash was bad. His whole bottom is red and on the side of his leg it looks like a raised welp. He's never had a bad diaper rash before, just a little redness that Desitin would cure. I put more cream on and this morning when waking up it looked worse. He's had 2 more poopie diapers since waking up so I know this is not helping the cause.
He hasn't ate anything new, so I think he just has the stomach bug that my husband had earlier in the week. He SCREAMS in pain when I change his diaper and I feel so bad. I read online that you need to air it out sometimes so right nowhere napping in his crib diaper less. I also saw where it said over the counter 1% Hydrocordisone cream helps best.
Any other tips or tricks? I feel horrible for him and am contemplating on going to Urgent Care.
Re: Bad Diaper Rash?
Alex had a bad diaper rash last week. It started over the weekend and by Monday, it was horrible. He had his 1 yr visit that day. He had pooped a lot(4-5 times a day) over the weekend. His poop was just a little acidic according to the pedi. He said air him out when possible, use warm water and no soap instead of wipes to clean him, and apply a thick layer of diaper cream at every change(wet or dirty). If it was still bad or got worse in 2 days, he would call in a prescription cream. I used the max strength(purple tube) desitin because it had the highest amount of zinc oxide in it. It cleared up in a couple days.
The dr also suggested with the hot weather, we put a thin coat of creme or vaseline to help prevent rashes from all the sweat.
