C-sections

Drinking alcohol after c/s

Is there a certain amount of time you're suppose to wait to drink alcohol after a c/s? I'm 3 weeks pp & haven't taken any pain pills since I got home from the hospital (which was 3 days pp). Can it mess with your recovery? I'm worried that it might mess with the healing process. Or am I just crazy?

Re: Drinking alcohol after c/s

  • I've had three c-sections and I've never heard of a "time frame" for drinking.  The only issue I can think of is if you were still on meds, which you said you weren't.... Bottoms up!

  • As long as you aren't on meds then I would say drink up!

  • I vote crazy Wink You'll be fine drinking as long as you aren't on medicine.

  • Are you breastfeeding?  I didn't drink after my c-section for a while, but that's because they told me you have to be done drinking for 2 hours before you breastfeed again, and DS did not go two hours without eating for a while.

  • Hi!

There is no time frame for drinking alcohol, however alcohol is passed in small qualities through your breast milk.  If you are breast feeding, I recommend to "pump and dump" a couple of times. Just make sure you have some milk stored up and you are good to go!!

  • I thought I would want to drink ASAP after giving birth, but I was so sleepy from bfing and having a new baby around I don't think I had a drop of alcohol for a few weeks.  I don't think there is a set time, though, just if you are bfing it's important to be careful how much you drink, etc.

There is no need to pump and dump your precious milk unless you are getting wasted.

This! Unless you are drunk you can nurse your LO anytime. I have never in 19 months avoided nursing due to alcohol consumption. And my daughter has never shown any ill effects. As for the time frame after c/s as long as you are not on any medications that are contraindicated with alcohol, enjoy!
