Trouble TTC

Let the journey begin.....

Hi everyone!! A little background about my hubby and I. We are newleyweds, just married May 19! My husband has two children, a 13 and 8 year old from a previous marriage. I have no children of my own. During my husbands previous marriage he opted to have a vasectomy done since they had decided against any more children. Shortly thereafter their marriage ended in divorce and we began dating.  We had worked together for several years, and got along well therefore our dates seemed perfect....almost too good to be true.  Our relationship blossomed from the start and I began to see myself with this man as my husband.  The thought of never being able to have children due to his vasectomy never crossed my mind, we had plans of reversing it in the near future.  Time went in on and we did just that.....had a vasectomy reversal and also got engaged!!! I was on cloud nine, and couldn't wait to start a family with this man I deemed so incredibly perfect for me! After a few months of TTC, my OB/GYN  ordered my fianc? at the time to have a SA.  This test showed my love to have ASA at 97% from head to tail!! There was practically no way we could get pregnant on our own.  I was devasted, upset, sad, frantic, confused.....all at once!!! After consulting with a RE that my OB/GYN recommended, we decided to go straight to IVF.....planned to do so after the honeymoon.  So here we are........have been on OCP's for the last three weeks. Got my big package of meds this am!!! Starting Lupron 10....tomorrow!! My RE says not to be greedy and to only implant 1 or 2 embryos......my DH and I were thinking more along the lines of 2 or 3. What do you all think? Any advice or suggestions to help me get through this successfully?

Re: Let the journey begin.....

  • At 31, you should probably take your RE's advice to only implant 1 (maybe 2) embryos.  It is likely that one (or both) will implant. It seems like your issue is sperm, so IVF will get around that.  You and your baby will be healthiest if it is a singleton pregnancy... you definitely don't want more than twins.  I haven't done IVF (yet- starting next cycle) so I don't have any other advice to get through it.  Good luck!

Thanks for the feedback Shelley.  My DH and I discussed it and you do make a good point regarding the actual cause of our infertility. Although I was diagnosed with PCOS, I was able to ovulate on Clomid. Therefore if DH did not have ASA we more than likely could get pregnant on our own. We want to have more than one child together so the possibility of twins excites us! Thanks again for all the info.....will keep you updated! I start my first injection this evening!
