Two Under 2

What are must haves

We have purchased a crib for #2, but that's it. We are going to get some 4 oz bottles (just going to start with Dr. browns this time around) and an ergo carrier, but other than that I can't think of anything else we need. DD1 & DD2 will be exactly a year apart and so clothes withal coincide with seasons perfectly! I just feel like im  missing something important!!

Oh and we have plans for a stroller too, but aren't in a rush for that!

Re: What are must haves

  • There really are not many things you need for a 2nd. Carseats? We were able to hand ours down from one child to the next so we're just buying for the older one, but something to think about.

Depending on your bedroom situation I'd think about additional changing stations. We only had one and it was in the bedroom so when the baby started sleeping in the crib it was complicated (or when the toddler was sleeping and the baby needed changing). I quickly realized that I needed a few changing areas.

Some people get a bigger diaper bag.

Also, we didn't have a lot of infant seats etc with the first one. We mostly wore him or let him play on the floor. With #2 it has been nice to have a seat and I'd love an exersaucer. I wear #2 a fair amount but I actually wear her less than I wore #1 because he's pretty active and it's easier for me to let her play on the floor or in a seat while I engage with him.

  • I am going through baby wash cloths and wipes more quickly than I thought I would.  So I would say more of those items.

  • Definitely second the idea of multiple changing stations. DD1 was still in the nursery when DD2 was born, and the baby slept in our room for 6 months. I had stuff to change both girls in the nursery, and stuff to change DD2 in the living room for middle of the night changes or times when DD1 was napping. If you have a 2-story house, I'd have stuff to change both girls upstairs and downstairs.

Other than that and a double stroller, we didn't really need anything for our second we didn't already have for our first. We thought we might need to supplement #2's wardrobe a little more since DD1 was a Feb baby in CA and DD2 was Sept in the Midwest, but she is quite a bit smaller than her sister was so seasons we thought wouldn't line up actually do. I still bought her some new stuff anyway, just for fun :)

  • I am looking at double strollers but waiting on clothes until we know the sex. If it is a boy not much to buy but if it is a girl boy will I have some fun and I would get to decorate a pink room. Love my little boy but hoping for a girl.

  • Thanks, ladies! Multiple changing stations is a great idea. Right now I change DD1 on the couch because she is super active and I can't control her any other way. For a while we were doing it on the floor in her room, but I'm so big now I can't get up off the floor very easy (LOL!). My girls will also share a room. The crib will go in our room until she is sleeping all night and ready to be in the room with her sister.

Oh, and of course I will buy some new cute things for DD2!! :)

    Thanks, again!

  • More towels/washcloths - I forgot how fast we go through them w/ a newborn.

New pacifiers if you use them.  Burp cloths & bibs (a lot of ours from #1 were MIA)

Another high chair, or booster for older DC (eventually).

Some new toys/books to entertain older DC while you have to feed/attend to new baby.
