Second Child. Are you registering?

Hi, I am 31 weeks pregnant with my 2nd boy.  Because I'm having another boy, I don't plan on having to get a lot of stuff.  I know that my Aunt is insisting on throwing me a "sprinkle" with family members anyway, so I ended up starting a registry.  My question for you all is besides a double stroller, what kinds of things should I register for?

Re: Second Child. Are you registering?

  • I would say anything that is kind of worn out from your first. Or any wants that you know you were wanting to get that you haven't picked up yet.

  • In all honesty, register for stuff you want. That completion coupon at the end is pretty awesome!

I would register just for the coupon!

  • We will do a Meet the Baby party when he/she arrives but still won't register. Some things I have picked up though are some of the lighter weight swaddle blankets for this July baby. I would like an ergo since I didn't have one with DD but haven't bought one yet. I would also like to pick up some new photo frames and lots of diapers! We don't need a whole lot this time around.

  • If you already have most of the stuff you need, you could register for things like diapers, wipes, and bath wash/lotion. Things that you would have to buy anyways. If they get you things you don't need, you can always exchange it for what you do need. I imagine things like swaddlers and clothes would always be good to have new as well.

My mom is insisting on throwing us a "meet the baby" party after she's here but we really don't need anything.  I'm not registering, and I'm hoping my mom encourages people to not buy gifts... we really don't need anything.

Maybe she could suggest, if people want to get you and baby something, that they give you money towards a grow up plan or college fund.

  • I was in the same situation as you, 2nd child, 2nd boy, but had two showers.  I told both of them I would register just so people would know the brands I preferred of items.  I only registered for diapers, wipes, medicines, butt paste, vaseline, changing pad liners, etc.  The things we would be buying no matter what. People were so generous and generally bought the brands we have preferred so it was awesome!
  • I am having a sprinkle tomorrow for my 2nd son.  I resisted for MONTHS even though my friend was insistant over and over.  I finally 'gave in' when she said "it's not about the gifts, but about celebrating this little boy's life".

I registered for a few new bottles, new nipples, a 2nd camera (monitor), a booster seat for my son (so the new baby can use the regular one in a few months to eat, new washcloths, diapers, wipes, pacifiers, new pump parts, diaper rash cream, a new hamper (DS1 is still using his), new Sophie the giraffe (DS1's is trashed).

  • I did just for the few things we needed and have only told people who are coming to my shower who have asked.  We are having the opposite sex, but two friends already gave us enough close to last for two years of life.  I registered for replacement parts for my pump, storage bags, pacifiers, bibs, diapers/wipes, a few "boy" related toys, an Ergo since we didnt get one with #1, I also registered for a double jogger (really cheap version) and a convertible car seat for when #2 is out of the infant carrier, a new infant carrier cover, and a few spare pieces of our double stroller.

  • Bottles, diapers, wipes, baby shampoo and body wash--I really wanted to try out the Snugabunny bouncer and Rock n Play--this has really worked well for me.

  • I've debated this as well just for the completion coupon but do you have to have a "qualifying" registry where people have actually bought off of it in order to get the completion coupon??

I only had one person buy off my registry and the coupon still worked. Also, the 10% came off of everything I bought when I used it, not just the stuff that was on my registry.

  • Nothing.  This is 100% tacky.  I am pregnant with #3 and absolutely refuse to register, ESPECIALLY if it's the same gender (this is a DD after two DS and it still doesn't matter).  I completely think it is your responsibility to replace things that are warn out or to buy a double stroller.  If people want to know what you need, they can ask you.  Honestly, is there really that much that you "need"?  Unless you got rid of a crib, carseat, and bottles, everything else should still be in reasonable shape.  If you chose to give your items away, this was your choice and you should be responsible and replace them.

I don't buy into the whole "but I get an awesome completion coupon" mentality either. Google discount codes and you will likely find equal discounts online.  A 10% off coupon is NOT that amazing.

I usually don't jump into these disagreements, but since you asked, you opened the door!

Edit:  I also wanted to claify that if it's really about "celebrating the baby" then you could have a party when the baby was born so people could meet them and request that they do not bring gifts. Otherwise, let's be honest, it really is about the gifts.

This, I am registered for mainly the completion coupon but also my BFF is throwing a "Sprinkle" for me with our close Girlfriends. So this way if they want they but off the registry, they can. But as I said I mainly did it for the completion coupon for  they few things we need to replace and the double stroller and such.

i.e.:  baby towels, wash cloths, maybe a couple a new crib shirts and so on...

  • This post caught my eye as my cousins wife just had a sprinkle yesterday..She is having another boy, they are 2 years apart and she had FB posts saying she had "donated' most of her sons things..then a town by ours had their annual citywide yardsale, she posted on FB she had gone 2 days in a row and picked up a TON of clothes as did her mother. Her Mom bought her a brand new baby bed also.  What really irks me about alot of what she has said is her FB posts that they just went and got 2 new big TV's, one is 3D, they have new IPODS, IPADS, you name it in the electronic dept, they have it. I would think with some of that money they spent on those expensive electronics, they would have set some $$ aside for necessary things for the baby, even if it is $200..Its called getting your priorities straight in some instances, particularly hers

  • I did, mostly for the coupon. Since we're team green people are probably going to get us clothes after the baby's born (if anything). I kept the registries private until a couple weeks ago. I'm not telling anyone about them though.
