Babies: 9 - 12 Months

DD is 10 months old and still has no top front teeth

She only has the bottom 2 front teeth so won't eat any "real" food just baby food- anyone else have this same issue? She just started eating puffs but not a huge fan. Also, when is the best time to take away the bottle and start using a sippy cup for her formula? I would really like her off bottles sooner then later because baby # 2 is due 11/30/12!

  • My baby is 9.5 months, and doesn't have any teeth at all.

My baby is almost 11 months in like 4 days, and he has just cut his first bottom tooth, less than a week ago. It is barely a tooth, there is not enough there to use to chew. We chew food using the sides of our mouth, and the molars don't come until much later, your LO will be able to gum many different soft textured foods, it is just something new that they need to get used to. Keep trying different things, soft fruits, boiled or steamed veg, bread, pasta, cheese, pancakes, eggs... the possibilities are endless.

Agree with PP's.  My LO has her bottom two but the tops ones are still not in (I can see white, but nothing popped yet).  She has been eating all kinds of things for a while now.

As for your bottle question, we give water in a sippy and formula in a bottle.  Once she starts on milk I will transition to only a sippy, but I'm not going to rush it.   She gets the concept of using the sippy, so we will keep practicing (and trying different kinds) and then when she is ready, we will switch.

  • DD has 1 bottom tooth in (2 more on the way) and I can just see the start of a top tooth.  We started introducing solids (some purees and some finger food) at 6 months and some days she'll eat and some days not -- we just keep offering.  I don't plan to offer breastmilk in a sippy until closer to a year (though she will drink water from it).

Does your LO play with the food, outright reject it?

  • My DD is working on those 2 top teeth coming in now. She was off of table food edited she even got her 2 bottom teeth. She just gums it. Lots of babies don't have any teeth yet.

  • DS is 9  months and still has no teeth.  All 3 of my boys were slow at getting teeth.  My second only had 4 teeth until he was 18 months old!!

You can start using the sippy at a year or so, as long as she has no problem drinking her milk from it.

  • DS was eating real food with no teeth at all. Now he has 2 bottom front teeth and eats pretty much everything we eat. They just mush food with their gums until the toddler mollars come in anyway.

  • No teeth here at all.

She eats pretty much everything. Just cut it small if teeth are needed (like shredded chicken), and many things are gum-mashable.

I find the sippy to be a bigger pita (and less hygienic) than the bottle. I'm in no hurry to ditch the bottle (and I have #2 due in sept).

  • Thanks for the advice. I think she has a texture issue- I try to give her yogurt and she gags and makes a face like it is the worst thing she ever ate! I'm going to try a banana and eggs this weekend. Also, does anyone have a double stroller they totally love? I have no clue which one to buy.

I see that you're new, I think if you look to the left toolbar there should be a Two-under-2 board, they'd probably be a lot of help with double stroller suggestions and all the other gear you'll be needing soon. GL!!

  • Mine doesn't have any top teeth, just the bottom 2, and she eats all kinds of stuff.  Also, we don't do formula in a sippy.  Formula stays in a bottle, and water for the sippy.
  • DD#3 still has only her bottom 2 teeth, but she'll eat anything (and I do mean anything) not fast enough to get away.  About the only thing she won't eat is baby food, but DD#2 suddenly likes it, so it's getting used.  I started DD#3 on a sippy cup at about 8 months, when she could sit really well.  She's never had a bottle, though, so I don't have a lot of advise for you there.  Good luck.

  • I have a BOB revolution and LOVE it!!  It's a bear, but so easy to steer that it's worth it.  And, I've carried up to four kids (my little 2 in the actual seats and DD#1 and her friend sitting in the footrest) in it and can still push it one handed.
