Natural Birth

The Birth House

Anyone else reading or read this book?  It's a fictional story about a midwife apprentice in Nova Scotia, Canada during World War I and the onset of OB's coming in and getting the women to come do twilight sleep for their births.  I haven't finished it yet, but it's definitely interesting to see how doctor's got these women to change everything they knew about birth by basically saying it was the more scientific and smarter choice.

I haven't read that one in particular (read a few others that are similar) but, if you enjoy that, you should read Birth: The surprising history of how we are born.  It's not a novel, but more of a history on the development of modern day obstetric care.  Very interesting.
