1st Trimester

If you have a LO that will be about 3 when baby is born...

Are you going to get a double stroller?

I can't decide if we need one.  DH says that for the occasions where we'd need a stroller for DS, we will both be there and can each push a stroller.

Thoughts?

Thanks for sharing.

  • I thought about getting one of the strollers that have the sit or stand thing in the back. I won't know until the LO is here because I am still on the fence about it. I kind of agree with your DH if we are ever going to need a stroller both DH and I will be together so we can both push one. Like I said I still am unsure

  • I am having the same dilemma.  I feel like I might want one so that I can go  on walks (esp when the baby is first born.)  I feel like ultimately it will be a waste though so I am really unsure.

  • I have and love my sit and stand. (My children are a little closer in age) But for trips to the zoo or mall...you want to be able to have the older child sit and rest without the annoyance of having two strollers. And what if you do go somewhere alone, then what? Get a sit and stand that can hold your car seat!!

I also bought a big double stroller and hated it. For years I've only been using my sit and stand.

Get it on craigslist and then you won't feel as bad if you don't use it much.

  • Im totally getting the sit and stand! By time spring us here, this LO will be 4-5 months old, so we will definitely be hitting up parks, the zoo, and other fun places.

  • I already have a double because we have one in between, but I wouldn't buy a double for a newborn and 3 yr old. DD comes and goes in the stroller, but I would find it easier to have one stroller/umbrella and just wear the baby when your DS wants to sit. Maybe look into a sit and stand? It really depends on how often you use it and what you would be using it for. My kids only stay in the stroller for short periods of time before they are busting out and running around, so that would be a factor too.

all of this.  I might try to pick up some sort of Sit N' Stand option and keep it in the box to be returned if we don't need it.

  • No, I dont think we will get a double stroller.... If they were closer in age I would consider but at this point I dont think it is worth the money.

  • We will not be getting a double stoller. My DS hates being in the stroller to begin with. I'm hoping to wear baby #2. My DS never let me wear him though, so who knows, I may find myself out stroller shopping after the baby arrives. Ha!
  • i had my first two and they were 13months apart, and we had TWO different kinds of double strollers (jogging and a graco double stroller). To be honest, we used it for maybe the first few months with both of them, but they are so hard and aqward to use. We ended up getting another regular stroller bc the once in a while we would want a stroller, my husband would be with me. This way we each only had to push one stroller and could put their stuff on the bottems of each of their storllers. And even that didnt last very long, by the time my daughter was like 2 and a half, she NEVER wanted to sit in it, so we only needed one after that anyway. I guess it depends on how much use you really think you are gonna gt out of it.

  • I plan on just using my Moby wrap for the baby for the first year.  That's what worked with DD (she HATED the car seat/stroller) and it worked out great.  Once the baby has pretty good head/torso control I will get a 2 kid jogging stroller, but hopefully not until then.

  • Not going to get a double stroller but may get a sit and stand thing just for zoo trips etc.  DD likes to walk most everywhere though so we'll see!
  • here's my two cents! We did get a sit and stand, because I'm not going to chase after a 2 1/2 year old while I push the new one in a stroller. Having a double will give me more freedom when DH isn't home. Plus, even when DH is home and we're going somewhere, why take 2 strollers that each of us could push when we can put them both in one? :0)

No. DS hasn't tolerated his stroller for at least 6 months anyway.
  • Yes. I got mine on Craigslist last fall. It was a great deal. Baby Jogger City Select Double. We walk daily and our walk at that point was about two miles. We just moved and are trying to come up with a similar route. That would be a little much for my son and I would also like it for trips to the zoo and other crowded places.

I like the way you think!!  Precisely this.

  • I think I'm going to get a jogging double, just so we can go on walks or runs. Otherwise I might be on the fence about it.
  • My sn will be three and a half and we're getting the sit and stand. He can't make it through the entire mall or zoo before he wants a break and I don't blame him. Plus, we are planning to have a third pretty close in age to the second so it's worth it to us.

  • I doubt it. DS will be almost 3.5 when the baby is born.  He hasn't been in a stroller for a while now (several months).  If I was a SAHM and would be doing a lot of outings alone with the kids, I'd probably consider it.  Since that's not the case, I think we'll be fine without it since we'll usually be all together and can have a 1:1 ratio.  :)

We have a wagon, and will probably just use that for things like the zoo when the baby is big enough to ride in it.

  • I'm definitely getting a double jogging stroller because I run, but I'm also considering getting a sit n' stand for errands/outings. I'm going to wait until closer to my due date (or maybe even after) to decide, though. ETA: I'm a SAHM so I won't always have another adult with me.

  • I haven't decided yet, but I am leaning against. DD will be in between 2.5 and 3 years old. I have a snap and go stroller and a light stroller right now. It is rare that I take DD out in the stroller anywhere. We use it for walks, but DH is usually available. Otherwise when we go out DD is usually in a shopping cart.

I work full time and plan on sending DD to daycare most of the day when I am on maternity leave, so I think it would be pretty rare that I would need to take them anywhere besides the grocery store, the daycare, or the doctor by myself.

If I decide I need one, I will get one later I guess.

  • We will be getting a double. We take a lot of day trips and will definitely be using a double for a couple of years during those trips (zoo, theme parks, etc.). I am leaning towards the city mini double.  We love our BJ city elite so will probably get the board for DS to ride on during trips to the mall, etc.
