1st Trimester

Anyone have/had anterior placenta?

When I went in for my NT scan, the tech told me that my placenta was in the front so I may not feel the baby kick as much when it starts.

Has anyone had this in a previous pregnancy? Did you feel any kicks at all?

I'm pretty sure once it gets big, it will still probably jab me in the ribs pretty good, but it will be sad if DH won't be able to feel it from the outside.

Re: Anyone have/had anterior placenta?

  • I had one with DD. It can cause you to feel the kicks a little later. I first felt her for sure (before that I didn't know if it was just gas) at 20w3d. We were lying in bed, and I grabbed DH's hand and put it on the spot. He felt her, too. Your placenta won't take up the entire front of your uterus, just part of it. It's not that big of a deal. I don't know percentages, but a lot of women on my bmb had them, too.

ETA: Later on, both DH and I could feel her kicks/punches over all of my stomach, even in the area that the placenta covered. Babies get strong!

  • I had an anterior placenta when I was pregnant with my daughter.  I was 20 weeks and the nurse and my doctors office asked if I felt movement and said no.  The nurse was shocked .  I was worried until the doctor came in the room.  I told her what the nurse said and that is when I found out I had an anterior placenta.  I did not feel much movement until 24 weeks.  Even later in the pregnancy, there was movement felt from the outside but not as much as I thought there would be.
  • I had an anterior placenta last time.  The U/S tech said it looked (at 10w) like it was forming anterior again, but it's too early to tell for sure.  Last time I didn't feel movement until ~23 weeks and it was obvious that at that point they were real kicks and flips.  I didn't feel any early flutters or small movements.  Kind of a bummer, but once I could feel movement it didn't let up :)

  • Maybe I should also add - DD was transverse (lying horizontally in my stomach) until about 28 weeks. So her kicks and punches were to the sides of my stomach - around the AP. Maybe that's why I felt her kick at 20w3d and felt flutters before that?

  • I had an AP with my son. I start feeling flutters at about 22-23weeks and full on movement by 24 weeks.

  • I had an AP with my son.  I started feeling kicks at around 21 weeks, I think?  His movement was always a little "muffled" but it was definitely there; and DH was able to feel him just fine. ;)

  • I had one with DS also. I know it was later when I felt him kick - I don't remember weeks any more, DH felt him kick at Christmas Eve Mass so around 24 weeks, it was a nice sweet moment :)
