i pump for my daughter but have to supplement due to very low supply.
she's very gassy so her doctor wanted me to switch her from similac
sensitive to similac alimentum. yesterday was the first day on it and i
am weaning her on to it due to a totally different taste. my question is
has anyone had to switch their LO to alimentum or nutramegin? she has
cried off and on all day and has been very inconsolable. it's almost
like her tummy hurts because of the new formula and how it digests.
reason i think this is because when i put her on her tummy she stops
crying. any thoughts?

Re: new formula question
okay thanks. yea her pedi adjusted her dosage, but it's hard to give her .8ML in the droppers i have! so idk if i'm giving her enough or not b/c nothing shows the individual ML on the dropper. it goes from .5 to 1.0
and yes i am giving it time! just curious other's experience. she seems to be doing better today, but just nto eating as much the last 2 feedings. i'm gonna let her sleep and let me know when she's ready to eat this next time.
Also if you are having trouble getting her to take it, try putting the meds in an empty nipple from her bottles and giving it to her that way. Its a lot easier than shooting it into their mouths.
Our precious girl, born at 27 weeks.
We tried it while DD was in the NICU. It didn't help with her gas or reflux... well help enough to justify the cost for us. She never did eat as much of the Nutramigen as she did the other formulas-- I don't know if she thought it tasted vile and didn't want to drink that much or if she felt she didn't need to drink as much because her stomach/throat didn't hurt and wasn't trying to soothe it by eating. .Probiotics (we use GoodStart with probiotics) seem to be helping a lot.
Have you tried feeding her more when she's crying, maybe she's hungry and going through a growth spurt? I know it's hard to feed them more when they have reflux or gas because you don't want to make it worse by overfeeding. 3 weeks is also when fussiness starts since babies are becoming more aware of everything. DD used to be able to go back to sleep after having a gas attack, but now she is hysterical when she any gas. Anyway, I am just throwing ideas out there. My doc says to give a new formula at least a few days before deciding it's helping or hindering (which IMO feels like a lifetime when they are screamy).
