1st Trimester

Constantly eating!

I feel like a pig! If I don't eat every 2 hours I get horrible stomache pain and a little nausea. I know the old "eating for two" is a bit of a wives tale, but I'm always hungry! I'm getting kind of chubby, but at 5 weeks I know I'm not showing. (or am i just bloated?) How do I control this? Fewer carbs?

Re: Constantly eating!

  • girl... I hear ya!  9 weeks in and i've gained 15lbs!  Its insanity how hungry I am all the time... With my first I gained 50lbs... with my second I wasnt hungry all the time and was able to better control what I ate so I only gained 30 but I have a pretty good feeling this one will be very similar to my first.... help us lord... ha ha.

  • I understand..this is my first.....and I'm always hungry.  I don't get a chance to eat every few hours I have to wait the tradition bfast, lunch and dinner due to my work schedule.  Even after I eat I feel full but at the same time I'm hungry for more!  I hope this will even out its so darn distracting!
  • Ugh!!! I am sooo glad to hear that Im not the only one!! I am currently 5 weeks in and I have been munching and crunching every hour on the hour! I have tried to eat more veggies and fruits inbetween larger meals like lunch and dinner. Staying focused on drinking lots of water to help fill me up. It might help??
  • I can relate.  You know that feeling you get when you eat way too much way too fast?  I have that feeling non-stop...yet I can't stop eating.  I will be 8 weeks tomorrow and I've already gained 5 pounds...but I'm happy about that because I was underweight to begin with.  I had hyperemesis with my last pregnancy, so I'm loving that I actually want to eat and don't gag every time I so much as think about food (unless it's chocolate - which for some reason makes me puke).

  • Focus on foods with lean protein.  That will help you keep your calories low and your hunger at bay.  Good luck!

  • I have this same problem! I have been trying to eat fruit in between meals. It seems to help a little, but it's not the fried chicken I really want...

Exercising regularly also helps me too. Cardio is a natural appetite suppressant (my best friend is a pt and she told me this, so if you don't agree, it's her fault Wink ). I try to exercise around 3 pm so I don't completely overdo it on dinner which is usually when I am the hungriest. Before I got the BFP, I always drank a bottle of water when I felt hungry. Sometimes when your body feels hungry, it is really just thirsty.

  • I feel hungry almost all day... I can fall asleep and wake up ready to eat something after 30 mins :) When the majority of these pangs hit I drink a glass of water and if I am still hungry I choose fruits, veggies with humus, crackers w/ cheese, dried nuts or trail mix.... Also working out will help with that chubby feeling, at least for me :) Indulge every now and again, but eat smart...

  • Don't be hard on yourself. I have the same thing going on.  If I don't eat often, I'm really nauseous. I almost have to force myself some of the time so that I can avoid feeling the way you describe.

I have found that having lean meat protein at every meal is essential. I snack on things like cottage cheese with a bit of yogurt and berries, hummus and veggies, cheese and crackers,...

I think that my first child is made of chicken. I ate chicken all day long to avoid the nausea!

  • I understand too! I am 5 weeks and am constantly eating. When I don't I get crampy and a little weak. Also, I am very bloated. However that has gotten better through the week. Drinking lots of water is helping. Then that presents another problem with frequent trips to the potty!
