Nickel allergy

Since I have had my LO I was getting rashy/itchy on my wedding ring finger. I joked to my DH that I was allergic to marriage but jokes aside, I do have a Nickel allergy. I went to my dr. the other day to confirm what this irritation was and she knew immediately that that's what it was. She said our immune systems change so much after having a baby. This totally sucks because I love my rings and have only had them for 2 years. I have a cream to use to try to help but she suggests I hold off on wearing my rings. Have you heard of someone with the same situation? Were they ever able to put their rings back on?

Re: Nickel allergy

  • I'm sorry to hear that's happening.  I actually outgrew my nickel allergy as I got older. I couldn't wear belts or  button fly jeans.  Even the battery on my Swatch watch in middle school made me break out. Dh made sure my wedding jewelry was nickel free.  After my pregnancy, I have been able to wear almost anything.  I wound up with curlier hair and acne as well.  Does your doctor think you might outgrow this? Can the rings be coated with anything to protect your skin?  Good luck!

  • That's what I want to find out, if my rings can be coated. I thought I would ask some jewelers. Hoping someone on here might know also. The md said there's a possibility it will go away but nothing's definite. Glad you outgrew your allergy and that's awesome that your rings are NF, had I known I could of gone that route. lol

  • Not sure if you want to take this route with wedding bands but clear nail polish sometimes helps you would just need to coat the inside & reapply as it wears off. Don't know the exact metal composition of your rings or if using nail polish removed when you need to recoat would affect them because I've only really used it with cheap costume jewelry. Good luck. Nickel allergies suck
