Constipation help (long)

LO now has constipation after starting Elecare and Prevacid mixed in applesauce twice a day. He has milk and soy allergies and had exclusively gotten BM for almost 5 months. He is getting a GI workup, which included a barium enema yesterday. Does Elecare cause constipation? Applesauce can. TMI but DS had a hard ball of stool that I could visibly see and I attempted to disimpact him. But I pushed it up further. :/ I am hoping some of the vaseline I used will help soften it. I will try a warm bath and a lower belly massage. We were at ILs getting ready to leave when be was having the rock hard BM. I know prune juice can help but I am afraid to give it.to him with having soy allergy. Would need to check prune juice ingredients 1st. And how much would I mix into the formula? He's a little guy at 11 lbs, 2 oz at 5 months old. Any other tried and true non-medicinal remedies?

    I am sorry he is feeling bad.  I also had have to do the prune juice and DS is also MSPI and a tiny guy he was on it for a couple of weeks.   I did 1 oz per bottle 4 times a day, I also had to do the rectal temp and a glycerin suppository when he was 3 months old, we did a child one and cut it in half his GI in childrens told me to do that because of how long it was.  Good Luck i hope he feels better

    DS is allergic to soy and DD is allergic to milk...we usually give them prune juice mixed with water, and haven't had any problems. They are 15 months old now and I usually do one part prune juice to two parts water. Pear juice can also help.

    We just did diluted prune jui e for our mspi guy. He is having a hard time with BM. I started slow with 1 oz diluted with water ;about half) once a day. By day 2 success. 
    TTC #1 since 6/08, MFI dx'd 3/09 Varicocelectomy 6/09, Hydrocelectomy 10/09 IVF with ICSI in Jan/Feb 2010 ER 2/7, ET 2/12 - transferred 2 blasts 5 snowbabies Beta #1 = 22 #2 = 19. Chemical Pregnancy :( FET May 2010 ET 5/30 - transferred 3 embies = BFN Fall/10 Went Gluten free + New RE and Clinic IUI #1 + Clomid 50 mg (1 follie) on 1/18 IUI #2 + Clomid 100 mg (1 follie) on 2/15 IUI# 3 + Femara 7.5 mg (1 follie) on 3/14 = BFP!!!! Beta #1 = 172 (15dpiui) Beta #2 =683!!! Ultrasound at 7 wks: 1 perfect beating heart. Baby Birthday Ticker Ticker

    Thanks ladies.  He was able to pass some last night and then again this morning.  Poor guy.  Now after talking to some co-workers, I do think it was from his barium enema.  Thanks so much.  Will remember the prunce juice in the future if it happens again.

    A little brown sugar mixed in his milk might work, too. Check with your pedi for the amount. I don't remember how much they told us to put in, but it worked very well (and, contrary to my concerns, the kids didn't then insist on sugared milk after that).
