Sunscreen...which one??

I'm usually a shut in by choice because I can't stand the heat outside so I rarely go out and expose myself to the midday sun however for my younger brothers birthday the whole family is going to the water park today and even though my only options are the lazy river and wave pool, I intend to make the most of it.

My only major hiccup is what sunscreen to get.... I would normally just use whatever anyone else had but since I hear as a pregnant lady my skin is more sensitive... I was wondering if there was a better product.

I really don't want to turn into a lobster :p

Thank you in advance!

Re: Sunscreen...which one??

  • I am super-fair and burn very easily when not pregnant and my skin is sensitive, my fave sunscreen is the aveeno spray on sunscreen. I think it's SPF 50 or something like that. I have had good luck with it, plus it's easy to apply because it sprays. Have a fun time!

  • I'm fairly light skinned and have been using the Mary Kay sunscreen. The smell isn't nearly as strong as other sunscreens and it works well. They also have a great after sun product that I love, too.

  • I've done a bunch of research trying to find one that works and is safer for pregnancy, and I've been using Coppertone Water Babies Pure & Simple on both myself and my young kids. It rates well on the cosmetic database chemical safey study.

I'm excited to finally get outside this summer. Got myself a book and sunscreen and a huge floppy hat!

  • DS's dermatologist recommended Vanicream sunscreen (and other products).  I always used spray sunscreen to get the best coverage when I put it on myself, but after reading that it makes you flammable for an unknown period of time after spraying it, I'm rethinking that decision around any grills or candles or anyone who smokes.

  • I'm using the Coppertone Water Babies 70+ SPF.  Mind you, I got a 2nd degree sunburn at about 14 weeks - I'm REALLY prone to nasty burns, and I get fevers from sunburns, so I have to be careful.

  • Check the ingredients.

#1: Steer clear of oxybenzone. Research is starting to show that it may interfere with hormones.

#2: You would probably be fine with any sunscreen of the "sensitive skin" variety. If you know that your skin is particularly sensitive (mine was super sensitive before pregnancy), go for one in which the only active ingredients are titanium dioxide and zinc oxide (no oxybenzone, avobenzone, etc).
