BF mom ?

I am EBF, but I am finding it hard to find healthy non gassy foods.. any suggestions?

I have been eating a ton of salad, but it is killing LO with gas.

Any suggestions would be great!!! Thanks

  • Have you noticed your LO reacting to the foods? I have been eating anything I want and  i just wait and see if my dd reacts. So far nothing and she is 11 weeks old. The health nurse told me that less than 1% of what we're eating passes to our LO so the chances of reactions are low.  I just try not to eat to much of any one food especially the gassy foods.

edit: just reread your message and your lo is reacting to the foods. nevermind, ignore me. clearly i need more sleep!

Believe it or not, most foods that you eat will have no effect on your baby. It is very rare for babies to be effected by what you eat. However, if you know of a food allergy in your family then try eliminating those foods one at time and see if it makes a difference. The most common allergy is dairy sensitivity. Try eliminating dairy products (including casein, whey, and sodium caseinate) and see if that makes a difference. It can take up to two weeks for your body to be cleansed of the dairy. Good luck!

Oh and have you tried using gripe water? That really helps my LO when her stomach is upset and she is gassy.

  • I will try gripe water definitely.. is that the same as gas drops??? I have been giving LO gas drops at night time feedings.  My DD never had a problem with ANYTHING I ate.. she was never gassy.  This baby is passing gas like its his job.. I thought maybe it was something I am eating.  The dr told me to be aware of what I was eating and I thought he meant gassy foods.. maybe he meant allergens.

  • Like KD suggested, def try gripe water. It's different than gas water. It really makes a difference.

  • I would give gripe water a try. My first son did better on gas drops, but by second son does better on gripe water.

I agree with pp about foods not affecting your LO.  Just chalk it up to an immature GI tract.
