Am I doing my gender determination scan too early?

DH and I are so excited to find out what we're having so we have it booked for July 17th, which would place me at 16 weeks 1 day. Is this too early? I have friends who have told me their Drs were able to tell the gender as early as 14+ weeks...but don't want to jump the gun either. What do you ladies think?

I went at 16 weeks 1 day. It was pretty obvious she was a she, but we were lucky and she gave us a good view.

I'm going tomorrow and I'll be 16w3d.

I don't think it'll be too early - but I would maybe make sure that they'll let you come back for free (I'm assuming it's an elective ultrasound at a place outside of your doctor's office) until they're able to accurately say!

I am going at 16 weeks and two days. We had an unexpected u/s on Monday and the tech told me what she thought the sex of our baby was at 14 weeks and 2 days and said she was pretty sure but won't confirm it until we go for 2nd trimester u/s so we are going to do a gender determination scan in two weeks:) we are so VERY unpatient:)

My drs office schedules them at 20 weeks. I wish i could get in earlier!

I went at 16 weeks exactly, and it was very obvious he's a boy. I don't think 16 weeks it too early, contrary to what some ladies say.

Yes they do let you come back for free if they can't determine what it is .

Thanks everyone! I'm going to go ahead and do it - I'm soo excited! I have a custom cake business in the Cayman Islands so I'm going to do a gender reveal for my family! I have a good friend who also has a cake business locally so she's trying to talk me into letting her do my cake so that I get to be surprised as well but I'm just to anxious to know what this LO will be!

It's early, but most likely not too early. It also depends on the baby cooperating, and I think the longer you wait, the more likely it is that it will be obvious. If your insurance will cover another ultrasound later or your Dr will do it for free, then go for it. If not, I might wait until closer to 20weeks to get it done. I personally scheduled mine for 20 just to be sure!

My doctor has us going in for one at 20w3d. I am going to just wait until then since she said there should be no question at that point, anything sooner could be wrong. Plus I guess to me the few weeks extra wait isn't worth spending money on an elective one to have a sooner guess.

I will be 16w 1d the day I have mine done. With my last one I also found out at 16w.

15w4d, and he is undoubtedly a boy. Best of luck - I hope you get (got?) an accurate scan.

My u/s (non-elective) was at 16w0d and they could not tell yet.

I am going next Saturday (July 7th). I will be 16w1d. Hopefully baby won't be shy! The tech guessed boy at my NT scan at 13w, so I am curious to see if she was right. Baby wasn't shy at all then, so hopefully it won't be any different in a week!
