Mothers are driving me CRAZY!!!

I am ready to ship my mother and mil to Timbuktu!  They are driving me flipping crazy!  Believe me it doesn't take much.  My mother thinks I am starving my son to death because I breast feed and she insists that he isn't getting enough to eat because not a chunker baby.  My mil is just freaking nuts.  She lives about an hour away and is alwasy asking when she can come and see Gavin.  So when I give her dates that I know we will be home, they don't work for her.  Then she tells my sils that we are denying her her grandson!  OMG!  She (mil) wants to keep Gavin overnight!  Not on your life crazy lady!  He's not even 2mo old yet.  I am ready to move far far away! Thanks for letting me vent!

  • My family was very supportive of breastfeeding but as DS#1 thinned when he became mobile, they were pushing formula b/c he needed to be chubbier.  Some babies will always be small.  DS#1 is in the 5 percentile for weight and I think DS#2 is following his footsteps.

And your MIL is a little crazy to think it is ok to keep your LO overnight.

    Vent away.

  • Your baby will tell you if he needs more food. Breastfed babies are normally leaner due to not getting all the extra fats that come with cow milk. My baby is breastfed and she only lost 1% of her birth weight after she was born and exceeded it before the end of a week.
  • I wish my family would be supportive of the bf.  They are so old school.  Yesterday we took Gavin to see a family friend that was in the area for a few days.  She asked me when I can start giving him cereal and things.  I said that he is to have breastmilk or formula only until 4-6mo.  My mom says " in that case he'll starve to death before he reaches that stage".  Really mom, thanks for the vote of confidence.  I try not to let it bother me too much, but sometimes it really hurts me.  She wasn't supportive of my natural, pain-med free childbirth either.  Ohhh family; gotta love 'em.  Thanks for letting me vent!

  • Oh how I underdtand. My mother also would stress me out about him not eating enough. Not every cry or fuss is for hunger. As long as doc says baby is aging good weight use that as proof baby is eating well. Just keep trying with MiL, though sensitive at least she desires a relationship with LO. Lovingly just let her know she will have to be flexible to accomodate a newborn's schedule.
