3rd Trimester

have you done your laundry??

Have you washed LO's clothes, blankets, ect? If not, when are you going to?

I have 18 days to go and MIL brought it up today... maybe next week I will??

Also, what detergent are you going to use? I used Dreft with my first for the first year...I didnt mind, but is it a must?

Re: have you done your laundry??

  • My goal this week is to sort through DD #2's clothes and see what I am using and if I need anything.  I don't like washing to early.  I will probably wait until the 36-37wk mark for that.  Last time I used Dreft and my LO didn't have a problem with it.  I will either use Dreft or a free and clear product this time.  The free and clear products tend to be a bunch cheaper.

  • I finished all LO's laundry last week. I used Tide Free and Clear or whatever it's called on all LO's clothes.
  • No where close to washing clothes with this baby (I wish!), but with my first, I used free and clear of whatever brands I could get the best deal on at the time.  It worked fine with DD and was quite a bit cheaper.

I didn't use the free and clear for an entire year.  At first, I tested regular detergent on a few items that didn't touch her skin as much, like the outer part of an outfit and then worked my way up to only using the regular stuff.  I think that was around 8 months or so.  TBH, it might have even been sooner.

I was surprised she did so well with the regular stuff early on bc I had issues with so many types of soaps and detergents when I was little.  Because of that, I'll be careful with this one, too, but if I don't see any signs of rashes or allergies, I'll do like I did the first time and switch to the regular.

  • There's really no difference between Dreft and any other regular, super scented detergent, except they make you think it's especially for babies' items. If your baby has no problems with the additives, there's nothing wrong with it. It's just nothing special.

We haven't washed anything yet but we do have a few weeks before I think I'll enter my "okay, if this baby comes early, I need to be ready" stage. I'm guessing I'll start becoming more paranoid at 35 weeks. haha. We're going to start out with Tiny Bubbles for detergent, since many people like it for their cloth diapers, which we're also using. We have an almost full stash of prefold diapers that need to be given a good washing, and then we have all the clothes/etc to contend with... and I am confident saying we have enough to last us most of the first year.

  • I wash things as we get them... most of his clothing is hand me downs from my nephew so it was all washed weeks ago. we use arm and hammer, no fragrance or anything. if he shows sensitivity to it than I will switch brands.

  • I have most everything washed and put away. I used Dreft.

  • I went through all of DD #1's clothes a few weeks ago and washed it all. There were some spit up and formula stains that had either gotten worse in storage or somehow we didn't notice them when we put them away, so I had to work to get those out. My goal was to get it all washed and put away (at least the 0-3 month stuff) by 37 weeks and I'm pretty much done, other than a few of the things we couldn't resist buying her :) We have been using All Free and Clear for forever and it has been fine for DD's extremely sensitive skin.

  •  Washed everything last week and used Tide Free and Clear.  I also used Dreft with my first two, not for the first year, just until I realized there was no sensitive skin issues.  Probably about the first 4 months.  This time around I went with a free and clear detergent.

  • Yes, we washed everything (at least up to 3 mo. in size) about 2 weeks ago. We used ECOS Free & Clear, which we were able to get a great deal on at Sam's Club.

  • I did all the baby laundry during my 35th week because that was the first week I was off work.

I just used All Free & Clear. We always use a dye- and scent-free detergent. Dreft has lots of scent in it...really not worth it.

  • I have not washed yet, but I do have all free and clear for when I am ready.

  • I did all her newborn and 0-3 month clothes, and all her linens at 36 weeks.  I have always used Purex since college, bc it's not tested on animals, but I switched to the fragrance & dye-free when I got pregnant.

  • While Dreft is great for baby clothes (because it's hypoallergenic and won't cause skin irritation), there are SO many free/clear detergents now that it's really not necessary to use it.  Even Purex has a free/clear baby formula now that's a quarter the price of Dreft
  • I have everything washed and put away.  I just used All Free & Clear detergent.  You don't have to use Dreft, just something "free and clear" of dies and perfumes.

  • I washed everything up to 3 months which pretty much filled her dresser and closet, plus all the blankets and washcloths, etc etc. Dreft has a crapton of additives in it, so we're steering clear of that. Using the same detergent we use for her cloth diapers (Charlie's Soap) on everything now.

  • I washed everything in Dreft, just because it seemed like the thing to do.  I actually bought the Target brand because it was cheaper.

  • I'm a week behind you, but I think I'm doing mine next Friday.

I used Dreft with DD for a while then realised it was a giant waste of money and any Free and Clear detergent will work.

  • I started last night. I just used the same laundry soap (gain) that I always use. I read an article about it in OBGYN office that said it was pointless to change unless your baby has a reaction. If we do have skin problems we will be switching to ALL free and clear. Dreft is too expensive and highly over-rated.

  • Clothing was done 2 weeks ago.

Went up to the attic and found a bunch of baby blankets,, burp cloths, etc, and I washed those all two days ago.

Most of the baby stuff is done, barring putting the bassinet together and pulling the pack n play and swing out of the attic, which H will take care of.

It's the rest of the house I have to get into order now. Today's agenda is the guest room, so I actually have a place for someone to sleep if I beg for help.

  • I bought a  sensative no fragrance brand - for baby.

Yes I have washed all my things I need- up until 3-6 months..  I washed crib sheets and blankets and things I know I will need.  I washed only 1 NB sleeper as I dunno what size my LO will be and if I need more I can wash them when I get home.. if she is bigger I will take back or exchange for bigger sizes.

  • All of his clothes, socks, hats, & blankets are washed and put away. I used Purex Baby liquid detergent & fabric softener.

  • I'd do it now!  I already did all of mine but I had some from a friend mixed w/ my DS's from before and they were all mixed and unorganized so I wanted to do that.

I just use the Free & Clear one from Costco.  I'm definitely not going to use Dreft!

  • I have everything washed, but mostly because I had a mini melt down about not being ready so my mom came over and helped me get lots ready for baby! We washed everything!

And we used Arm and Hammer. My MW said this was fine, its what we use on our clothes, and its for sensitive skin, no perfumes, or dies at all. I have very sensitive skin though and even baby fabric softner makes me break out really badly!

If you only have 18 days to go, I would get started ASAP!

Started TTC in 2006, LOTS of trying, and trying, and 7 rounds of IVF with 13 embryos, 2 perfect little boys and 5 loses....
All finished with babies, started to make diet changes, Keto, to be MORE for my kids, lost 30 pounds, still going, and 3 months in, I had a natural cycle, and then ovulated... Hubs and I are going to see what happens now... Maybe a natural pregnancy? After everything we have been through? Or just a return to normal hormones? We shall see what the future holds!

This. I use ECOS detergent without dye or scent for all of our clothes, including the new baby. Dreft is such a sham. They somehow convince people that their dyes and scents are somehow better for the baby. Excellent marketing skillz.

    I did it last weekend.
  • I plan on washing all the clothes in the last few weeks before she's due. My mom has gotten a couple baby detergents when they've been on sale, so we'll be using those.

  • Now that we've had confirmation that it's a girl I feel more comfortable washing everything (no doubt now haha), so I'll probably start washing some things here in the next couple weeks as we finalize the nursery.  I won't wash all my newborn, but my favorites.  Otherwise I was going to wait until she was born to wash most of the stuff.

I'll be using a Free & Clear detergent.  Dreft is overpriced and full of perfume.  I actually don't know how they label it a baby product, because it's hard on sensitive skin.
