Has anyone delivered at either hospital? My OB delivers at both hospitals, so DH and I did tours at both. Our goal is a natural delivery and we both fell in love with St. Ann's, but do worry because we don't know of anyone who has delivered at St. Ann's...
Re: St. Ann's vs. Riverside
I delivered at St Ann's and I would definitely recommend it! I started out wanting to go natural, but after almost 3 days in labor I ended up giving up and getting an epidural. 6 hours after getting the epidural and 3 hours of pushing after that we found out that I couldn't physically give birth naturally...Anyway, we ended up needing to do an emergency csection. I got to experience just about everything and I will tell you everyone (nurses, anesthesiologists, surgeons and everyone else) was amazing. I couldn't have asked for better care! Everyone supported me every step of the way, and I was never forced to do anything that I didn't want to do.
The care afterward was terrific as well. My daughter had jaundice so she needed to be put under a light in the nursery, but they still did everything they could to let me see her as much as possible. Also, the lactation specialists were a huge help and super nice! They worked with us to figure out what was going wrong (my daughter was basically chewing rather than sucking ouch!) and showed us how to train her to suck the right way. Once again, everyone was incredibly nice and super supportive and understanding.
Well now that I've written a book, I hope I've helped! Before I switched Dr's I was going to have to deliver at riverside, and I've heard from a lot of people that because they don't do a whole lot of natural births there they don't really know how to handle it, and a lot of the nurses try to push epidurals. I don't know if that's true or not but it was something I didn't want to risk. Good luck!
I plan to deliver at St. Ann's. I have no experience with Riverside and little with St. Ann's but the little bit I do have is hands down amazing.
Anyone I talk to that has delivered @ St. Ann's has had nothing but wonderful things to say and judging by the other ladies comments on here, I'd say that is a trend! :-)
Best of luck to you!!
My Blog: Naturally Mindful
I delivered my son at St. Ann's. As a result of being 7 weeks early, he spent two weeks in the NICU. All of the nurses and staff were AMAZING.
The only thing I would caution you on is that the food afterwards is disgusting. Be prepared to have your SO/DH go out and get food.
I have delivered at both of them and my experiences were night and day. I was not impressed with St. Ann's, the entire delivery was a mess from start to finish. I went in when my water broke, it took four hours for the nurse to determine I was truly in labor and I was made me stay in triage the entire time without seeing a doctor and without any pain medication. She actually kept threatening to send me home, until she finally realized I did have a small tear in my water which is why I felt the fluid and I could not leave at that point. When I finally was admitted, after she realized it was the real deal, I was assigned a nurse who was on her first delivery going solo. Having my first baby with a nervous nurse just didn't sit well with me. I delivered at Riverside the second time around and it was a really great experience.
Good luck with everything!
we loved loved LOVED St. Ann's! Everything about it was such a blessing. We ended up being there for six days and only had one nurse we didn't care for. We were even able to stay an extra day in our same room while our daughter stayed for Billilight treatment. Even the food was good! haha. My sister also delivered at St. Ann's under very different circumstances and she also had nothing but great things to say about it. I would recommend it to anyone.
I also know lots of people who have delivered at riverside and have loved it. To me the biggest difference I have heard is that St. Ann's is more on board with the "natural" approach, whereas Riverside is gear a little more to high risk pregnancies. Riverside is also ALOT busier.
Hope that helps a little:)
I Bump from my phone 90% of the time, with a baby in my lap, so please excuse my bad format and poor spelling and/or punctuation.
