blue dye test/false positive question

I just got what I think is a faint BFP on a blue dye test this morning (10dpo).  I know that these tests are notorious for false positives (i wasn't paying attention when I bought it).  I have seen my share of evaporation lines, but this time there is the tiniest tint of blue, mostly on just half of the line, if that makes sense.  The test does not need to be tilted to be seen, as it usually does with an evaporation line.  My question is for those of you who have experience with blue dye tests, are the false positives usually gray, or can they sometimes be blue as well?  I don't want to get my hopes up too much.  TIA!

  • Use an FRER with FMU.

  • A beloved TTGP-er once said "one line or two, I don't care if it's blue!"  LOL

In all seriousness, if it is a blue vertical line (even half of one) & you don't have to tilt it to see it, that sounds positive.  Check out countdowntopregnancy.com.  They have a whole gallery of HPT pictures & you can search by brand.  GL!

  • I've had that happen to me before and it has also happened to many other ladies, which is why I'll never ever trust blue dye again.

I say go pick up a cheap .88 cent test from Wally World or a frer. Good luck!

  • thanks for the input ladies!  (I pretty much got the answers I was expecting, with a couple fun websites to check out in the mean time!)
  • In my experience, if the line wasn't the same width as the control line, it was an evap.  I saw the slightest hint of blue on evap lines also, but what the biggest indicator for me was the width.  Just go buy a FRER so you'll know for sure.  Good luck!!

  • My blue dye tests always showed a faint blue line that looked like it consisted of little dots.  When it was actually positive, that same faint line showed up...but then got a little darker after a few minutes.

  • I had the same thing happen. I went and bought two more kinds of tests. One with the pink dye and a digital. I took one of each of those and there was no doubt that it was positive! I was very cautious about the blue dye as well! Go take some other tests.

You don't HAVE to test with FMU! :) Test today, and if it's neg test again tomorrow. FWIW, my bfp was a blue-dye (11 dpo), but these boards freaked me out so much I went and bought a digital. I peed an hour after the first test, and it clearly said pregnant. GL!

Sent the DH out for an FRER and it was about as negative as they get! :(  I am obsessing over this way too much so I'm hoping I can just count myself out for this cycle and wait for AF.

Bummer! I hope AF hurries up or you get a BFP soon :)
