Your experience/advice on Lancaster/Columbus hospitals

edited July 2021 in Ohio Babies
Right now I'm just researching hospitals and their views on natural water births. I'm only 10 weeks along and I have had four miscarriages. So I'm just praying I'll make it to the delivery room with a healthy child. I have a pretty basic birth plan in mind and I will refuse all medical intervention unless instructed by my doula (which happens to be my eldest sister with 20 years of medical experience). I'd just like to hear from moms/moms to be on your experiences in the Lancaster and Columbus area. What hospital you went to, your birth plans, and how the staff treated you and supported your decision.

Re: Your experience/advice on Lancaster/Columbus hospitals

  • Well, my experience with hospitals in columbus is pretty limited. However, I did deliver my daughter naturally at St. Ann's. The original plan was to have a water birth, but due to some complications, I was not able to. However, they were VERY supportive of it. we didn't exactly have a  "birth plan". I knew going in I wanted the least amount of intervention/involvement on behalf of the hospital as possible and they were totally fine with that. My midwife and nurse were both there with me the whole time. One of them was always in the room with me ready to help me with anything I needed. They made it feel like it was all about what I wanted, not what they expected. It was wonderful. There were some complications that came up during labor/delivery they were so supportive and explained everything that happened and all of our options completely and allowed us to decide what was best and were fine with our decisions. It was just wonderful! . I had a nurse-midwife from Women's Contemporary Healthcare.I believe Grant also allows water births, but I think they are the only other one. As for Lancaster, it is NOT an option and in my experience and stories from others, they aren't very supportive of the natural approach or doulas. In fact, I switched from my O.B. and fairfield medical center at 30 weeks to WCH and St. Ann's (1 1/2 hours away!) because I was so dissatisfied with their attitude.

This is my experience,  I hope it helps at least a little.

  • I had my son at Grant (7 years ago).  They were amazing!  They were so friendly and took great care of me and my son.  I will be delivering there again in june and hoping for the same treatment.
