Pregnant after IF

When did you graduate from your RE?

I feel like I am being over monitored and I don't think it's necessary.  He is having me come in every week for an ultrasound and every week everything looks great.  I'm unclear how much of this my insurance will cover and I just want to be discharged already as we have no reason to think I will be a high risk pregnancy.

I feel bad posting this as I know some of you want more from your REs but I think this is overkill!  I told them I am not coming in for a 10 week appointment but I will come at 11 weeks.  I have an appointment for a first trimester screen with a perinatologist at 11 weeks 5 days so I am really hoping to be discharged before then.

 Thanks!

Re: When did you graduate from your RE?

  • I still haven't graduated yet. But I suspect that I will after my 11 week u/s and appt. I think if you told them you wanted to be done after the next one, just tell them.

It does seem a bit much though going in every week....

  • I graduated at 8 weeks.  I had both betas done there and then a u/s at 6 weeks and one at 8 weeks.  That was it and I am having twins.  I was lucky and after the 6 week appt. I was able to get an appt with my OB's office for 8 weeks, so I went to the RE in the early afternoon and then to the OB in the late afternoon.  At that point I asked for a referral to an MFM as well since I am high risk.  I saw them for the first time at 9 weeks.

My RE usually graduates patients at 8 weeks, but bc my previous loss occurred at 8 weeks, he kept me until 10, then I saw my OB at 11.5.  If you think it's too much, skip.  Have you asked your RE when you'll graduate?

It is really interesting to see the different responses!

For me I had 2 Beta's and then my first u/s with my RE at around 7 weeks.  At the first u/s they told me I graduated and go ahead and call my ob/gyn. I had my first appointment back there the following week.

  • First U/S was right around 7 weeks, had a 2nd U/S at 8 weeks, then graduated. She wanted me to get in to see the OB by 12-13 weeks, since that is when they need to do the NT scan and first blood draw for the genetic screening. I saw the OB at 9 weeks (I think this was in part facilitated by my RE, since they are both at the university).

I graduate at 11 weeks (I believe).  My 1st appt. with my OB is at 8 weeks 5 days and I see my RE at 9 & 11 weeks.

I'm jealous you get weekly ultrasounds:)  I was kind of sad that they aren't doing my next one for two more weeks.

It's wonderful things are looking great, I think if you don't want to go every week, you shouldn't have to.

  • Mine moved me over as soon as we saw the heartbeats. I was 7w2d, but I don't know how standard that was. I saw a reg ob/gyn starting at 8 weeks. I think it's because most people coming to my RE were either mostly or completely OOP (which we were OOP 100%) so I think he just let us move along so we wouldn't have to keep paying for $300 a pop for u/s visits. I think you should definitely voice your financial concerns. It's great to know you're being taken care of, but they have to understand that you need a practical time frame too.

  • My RE released me at 8 weeks, but mostly because that is the point that my insurance would start covering my u/s and appts at an OB.  I am totally OOP for IF and it cost me $800 at the RE for monitoring during my first month on pregnancy.

Honestly, I think it is great that you are being monitored so closely and if your insurance will pay for it and it's not too far from your house then why not keep it up?  Since switching to the OB I feel like just a number and I actually miss my RE's office already (it's only been a week).

  • After learning I was pregnant...my RE drew 3 betas...which were pretty low to start with (23, then 58, and then 1,010). I was so scared the pregnancy wasn't viable.

After my 3rd beta, they wanted to confirm uterine pregnancy, so I had an ultrasound at 5w3d. At that appointment we only saw the gestational sac.

They had me come back about 10 days later. At 6w6d, we heard and saw the heartbeat :) They released me to my OB that day :)
