Cloth Diapering

Question about diaper covers.

Do I need something to hold the prefold on like a snappi before I put the diaper cover on?  Thanks!

Re: Question about diaper covers.

  • I'm a FTM so I haven't actually used any of my CDs but from what I understand you can either fold the prefold in 1/3s and just lay it in the cover or you can snappi it around baby then put the cover on.

  • My research says that for newborn babies with their skinny legs, the snappies are a good idea. They are pretty cheap so it seemed worth it to me.
  • You definitely need a few snappis. PP mentioned you can just fold them in thirds, but that will not hold in the explosive newborn poops and doesn't cover everything. Snappis work great!!

  • I used prefolds for a couple months because DD came home at 4lbs and NOTHING fit her chicken legs and tiny body. Def recommend snappis (or if you feel brave, pins) for the beginning at least. The NB poo will go EVERYWHERE, so you definitely want something to cover it. When they get older you can skip the snappi if you want and just put a cover over. It just depends on how mobile they are. Righ tnow, I can get away with not using a snappi because DD doesn't crawl yet, so her prefolds don't move around too much.

Trifolding works great a little later on!

  • Thank you for the replies, I went ahead and got 4 snappi's just to be safe. Smile
  • I never use snappis.  I just lay them in the cover.  Easy.
