Barf & carseats

DD threw up all over herself and her carseat last night. I went to wash her carseat cover last night and it says not to machine wash. Only sponge wash. It doesn't really make sense to me??? Anyone know why this is? I want to give it a good wash but not if it compromises the carseat somehow ....

I wash ours on the handwash setting in our washer anyway.  It's just the seat cover so it's not like you're going to affect her safety in the car by how you wash it.

  • What kind of car seat? I've washed our Chicco car seat cover without issues. I didn't put it in the dryer, though.

  • I've never had a kid barf in their carseat but if it happened I'd wash it anyway. Nothing smells worse than barf and I don't think spot treatment would make the smell go away. I'd just do it on gentle and hang it up to dry.

  • Our car seat inspector said that a machine wash will damage the fire resistant coating on the seat cover. It probably also voids your warranty. You'll have to weigh that against the vomit smell lingering. Sorry your LO was sick!
