Since politics are being discussed today, I wanted to see what Political Party you associate yourself most with. I think I got all the major ones.[Poll]
I've always voted Republican but since having LO my views have changed a lot. I feel like I have a greater understanding of things. So, with that said, I'm not sure I have a political association anymore.

I don't associate myself with one party. I believe in small government, but can't turn my back on social issues like gay marriage. I have a very difficult time voting and end up voting for what I feel is the lesser of two evils.
i wish i could be joking but my dad is the music teacher at a church so he owuld be mad. we had sex, all the time how bad i know but we dont want to wait and he said GREAT OH KAY! and I was really feeling the wets? down there- too embarsed to say- but he acted like man.
I voted SS because I have definitely have leftist tendancies so mostly vote Democrat but I prefer to see what a candidate stands for and have voted for Republicans before - although I don't make a habit of it.

this is exactly why I'm libertarian... But it seems like you throw your vote away if you use it. I've never voted for someone because I liked them, it was more that I hated them less.
I vote based on candidates, not on parties. Not all democrats are the same, not all republicans are the same but it's safe to say that I tend toward the conservatives.

this. my parents are very conservative, I have some of the same values but am much less opinionated. I see both sides of most things, so I rarely vote

I picked Democrat only because their general views fall in line with mine more than the Republicans. I would love for the whole party system to be done away with.
And now a funny story. My parents are republicans and, since they retired, have gotten more into politics. When I mentioned to them that I had more liberal views my dad says to me, "how did you become that way?" Like it would have been better if I told them I was gay. I think they would have taken that better. haha!

I took a quiz in my government class in high school and came up republican. Some of my views have changed since then, and I kind of hate both major parties.

So you think being a liberal is better than being gay. Wow.
I clicked SS. I am fairly liberal but don't vote along party lines, especially in local elections. We had a republican run against a democrat and get the Sierra Club's endorsement over his opponent, and I voted for him. My city got a controversial casino and I wasn't in favor of it for fiscal reasons even though most liberals here support it as a revenue source alternative to raising taxes. Even though I tend to vote by issue or by candidate rather than by party, I do end up voting democrat or green a lot (largely because a lot of the republicans out here are BSC racists like Oberweis).

I don't know much about the UK Parliament but one thing I do like is that they have a session almost every day in which the President has to stand before all of Parliament and answer questions about his decisions and policies. I like this idea and think we should somehow incorporate it to our president and law makers. Presidents and law makers should be held accountable to their constituents!

So be honest, both my DH and I are pretty socialist. As in Germany, Canada and Britain's systems. Which is funny because we both grew up in Kansas (still live there) to well-off Republican parents.

Yeah, I was going to say something about that comment, too, but why bother. I will also wait to hear who it's really coming from.

I am a republican. Fiscally, I have very conservative views, but socially I have liberal views. Seeing as how, I don't vote down the party line. I look at individual issues.

If I wanted to say it on my real SN I wouldn't have made and AE. I don't want ppl to hate me, I like it here, so I'm not revealing. Honestly, I'm not looking for a fight and my intention was only to post my original post and then return to my sn, but your "gay" post irritated me.

I'm a bleeding heart, so I tend to vote dem, but I also have right leaning beliefs, such as being for the death penalty. I think child molesters should die.
Fiscally conservative and socially liberal - ie libertartian. Honestly though I don't vote much. I like in Texas, not much good one vote will do. If I lived in a more divisive state I would vote more.

Yeah, I actually identify as a fiscal socialist, pretty much! I don't mind everyone contributing and sharing the wealth. It's all the SOCIAL aspects of socialism that I can't get down with.

This is what sucks for us libertartians. If I want to vote the way I truely feel, I'm just wasting my vote. (

Why would you be hated? This makes no sense. Have you not seen that we have been talking politics all freaking day and having a respectful debate. Disagreeing with someones opinion =/= hate

This exactly. When voting, I've "gone both ways" lol. Though I do admit the older I get and the longer I work in my job (social service type), the more conservative I get. Things like abortion and gay marriage will prevent me from EVER identifying as republican though.

I'm to the left of the Democrats on most things! And unfortunately, I do associate with politicians - I work at our equivalent of the White House and my husband's best friend is the equivalent of a member of the House of Representatives

I'm not technically affiliated with any party, but I'm definitely liberal. I have never voted Republican, though I stay informed and WOULD if I felt they were the best candidate. I really enjoy politics, so I vote in every tiny election. I am totally fine with other peoples opinions about the topic...it's the uneducated, catch-phrase quoters that bother me.

I am liberal and get more so everyday as I get more and more educated. To those of you who say you don't vote because you don't think your vote counts, it does. My BIL just lost an election by 137 votes. I know about 10 people who decided that they just didn't want to take the time and were sure he would win so they didn't vote. I don't talk politics with very many people because of my family. So this was volunteered info. There were simalar results throughout the state. Something like only 7% of the registered voters in the state voted.

This exactly. I consider myself a fiscal conservative and a social liberal. I am a HUGE gay rights supporter but am also a member of the NRA and believe strongly in the 2nd amendment. My views don't fit with any party. In presidential elections, I have voted for both a Republican and a Democrat.
