Odd occurrence... Not rude. but.. odd.

OK. Maybe I watch too much Cold Case. But here goes.

I'm walking to my car. A lady driving by stops, backs up and asks when I'm due. Of course, I ask her why she wants to know, and I try to get out the street bc, you know, I'm trying to get to my parked car. She then asks if I have "private medical insurance." I pull my keys out. Then she asks if I'm on Medicare. I unlock my car. Then she asks why am I in such a rush. ANd I tell her it's 100 degrees and you want me to stand in the middle of the street and have a conversation with a total stranger - in a car - about my due date and my insurance? No maam. Have a good day.

Odd no? I hate that I was coming out my house when she backed up. Now she could probably figure out where I live.

I am super paranoid, so it would have freaked me out! I get worried if a car is behind me for too long when I'm driving around town...

Yeah that's creepy, but based on her questions it sounds more like she probably wanted to sell you insurance rather than skin you and wear you like last years Versace.

I am glad I'm not the only one that does stuff like that when I see creepers. I at least get the make and model of the car and try for the tag number, just in case!

But ever since I found out I was pregnant I've had an irrational fear that I'm going to be one of those pregnant ladies who gets kidnapped and has the baby cut out of me... gruesome- but you hear about it so much more lately.

And that is why I carry a concealed handgun, and I'm very well trained on how to use it.

It's creepy things like this that caused me to ask my husband for mace or a personal taser! Mace can backfire on you if its to windy and a personal taser is around $300 and is one time use. However, should you ever need to use it you fill out a police report and that gets mailed to the taser company and they send you a new one!

They can also come in pretty colors!!

That is odd. I'm sure it was nothing but still! Who does that? You don't just walk (or drive) up to people you don't know and start talking to them. Especially when they seem to be trying to get away from you in a hurry!!
You should have started yelling "Stranger Danger.. Stranger Danger" or something! Make HER want to leave.. fast!

Definately agree with other posters! This lady is CREEPY!!!!! I probably would have told her sometime in Dec and got in my car lol I don't like answering questions from strangers especially personal ones lol WEIRD!!!

ah. I didn't even think about getting her plate number. I do remember it was just an old, dusty 80s Nissan. the square kind. Haven't seen one of those since I was a kid. I've never seen her before, but if I see her again, I'll catch the tags.

And honestly, what's the deal with "private medical insurance." i've been asked a lot of things but never about my insurance and is the baby healthy and being taken care of properly.

PP who said "due in December!" Yes! I wish I'd thought of that. From here on out, I'm not giving out my due date.

That is odd. I would have told her that was personal info that you prefer not to share with a stranger and then walk away. Any person with reasonable sense would leave you alone.

My guess is she's an insurance salesperson and it's the end of the month and she hasn't met her monthly quota yet. Creepy but hopefully not dangerous.

Ever since I found out I was pregnant, my husband makes me take pepper spray with me when I go on long walks....which is fine but I HATE carrying stuff in my hands when I excercise and most of my walking clothes dont have pockets so he put it on a lanyard which makes me look so rediculous like some wanna be FBI agent or something. Plus, I take really long walks so I wear my camel-back to keep me hydrated ...so yeah it compliments my already dorky looking getup!! lol

But there have been a few (handful) of times that I reached for it and was glad it was with me.....so I say get some!!!!

Yes that is totally odd. There are some real creepers out in the world. Even if she was trying to sell you insurance, which you probably wouldn't be able to get at this point privately because pregnancy is usually considered a pre-existing condition, that is not the way to go about it!

I am very into forensic files, snapped, the investigators, shows like that so I totally understand where you are coming from. I have see quite a few regarding pregnant women and their newborns. It's insane and really scary that there's people out there who would do such harm. Anyway, yes, that was really odd.

Yeah, that happened near me, and I would be super paranoid (and rightly so) if some lady approached me like that. Not only would I have reported her to the police, I would have gotten in my car, and told her I was reporting her, so it was clear she couldn't murder me and steal my baby without getting caught.

In one of the surrounding towns from where I lived just last year there was a murder where some woman killed another woman and cut the baby out of her stomach. Now I have a healthy dose of paranoia. Also, it doesn't help that I watch the ID channel all the time.

Umm I would totally be freaked out about this, but then again I have a tendency to be super paranoid.

When I was about 6, someone offered to *buy* my sister in the WalMart checkout. Like dead serious. I remember clear as day the people going "Aww what a sweet little baby. Would you consider selling her?" My mom thought they were joking, because who buys babies, and replied "Not for a million dollars" and they came back with "Well, we were thinking $xxxx". My mom grabbed my hand and my sis and ran like hell- leaving everything in the cart and on the checkout belt (I'm sure the employees were none to pleased). So yeah, there are creeps out there; and even if she was just an insurance lady I still would rather be rude than dead!

When it's a complete and total (and rude) stranger, the acceptable answer to the questions is, "Due? What do you mean due? Are you calling me fat?"

Wow! That was bold of her. Do you think maybe she was a news reporter doing a story on the Health Care act? It would be normal for her to go to a highly populated area looking for a pregnant lady, but if so she certainly didn't handle it appropriately. You did the right thing.
