SKIDUNKS

Hey there. Tell me more about the wrist condition you have. Is it both wrists? What is the treatment and prognosis?

My problem is with my right wrist only. Funny, it started when I was still pregnant. But it is WAY worse now. It is not carpel tunnel. The pain is on the side and slightly on the top of my wrist - on the inner wrist. It is hard to grip anything or write. I have a lot of pain when I pick up my DS. And it is worst in the middle of the night or in the morning... I have to have my DH pick up my DS for me. It's terrible.

Does that sounds like what you have?

Re: SKIDUNKS

  • I have pain just below my thumb, in the tendon that runs from your thumb to your wrist. It hurts the most when I am moving DS around to different positions, when I am getting him into a position to BF and when I am lifting his carseat out of the car. I have it in both wrists, it started a few weeks after he was born.

I saw my PCP and she did a test called Finkelstein's test (or something like that) which diagnoses the condition de Quervain's syndrome. It's basically bending your wrist a certain way to stretch the tendon and see if it hurts, which mine did. I was supposed to start wearing thumb spicas, which are these big splints that hold your thumb at an angle, but I can't wear them to work (I'm a dental hygienist so I have to be able to move my thumbs) so she sent me to see a hand specialist.

I'm hoping I'll be able to learn some stretches or something like that to help it get better, another option is a cotisone shot or surgery. Dont' want to do either of those! I make sure not so sleep with my wrists bent, that seems to help a little, it's usually worse after a day when I have been holding DS a lot (which I am not about to give up!) or in the morning.

Sorry this was so long, hope it helps!
