Lands End is on sale and DS wants a certain color backpack, he does not like characters) so I want to get it now, well after he looks at it in the store. So, to personalize or not? And with initials or name? I know many people are scared tO put names on it but if the teacher might require it in Sharpie like I have read on here that will look crappy. Or did you personalize differently.
Actually they only do up to 7 letters so name is not an option, WTF is that about? Well, so are initials enough? And 2 or 3 initials?

Re: Last backpack? Personalization, yes or no
I am not sure but will email someone and ask. Do you think initials is enough?

Yes, that's plenty or like what the PP said about something unique so your kids can easily recognize.
I'm confused about the reason for the personalization.
If you're doing it because your son wants his initials on it or so he can find his backpack easily if another kid has a similar one, get his initials embroidered on it. In my son's K classroom, they had in individual cubby and hook for backpack and coat. So there was never a problem finding your own backpack. However, lunchboxes were collected in a big plastic bin after lunch and kids had to dig through the bin at the end of the day. Having a unique/recognizable lunchbox was important.
If you're doing it because the school sent home a note requiring a backpack to have their names on it, getting initials embroidered won't count for this. Land's End backpacks and lunchbags have a tag inside for the kid's name that you can write on with a sharpie.
Or, of course, you can do both. FWIW, I label everything (coat, backpack, lunchbag, hats, mittens, PE uniforms for older kid) with my kid's first initial and last name. I write this somewhere on the inside, where it could be seen easily if the item ever winds up in the lost and found but not seen easily from the outside.
Thanks. He wants his name but it does not fit and does not want his initials so issue solved. And he wants a different backpack that is only one size so I am done worrying. FWIW I would get the classmates medium and not large bc the marge is SUPER wide.
