...strollers/car seats/systems. Mommas: Bugaboo Cameleon vs. Orbit?? Have you had experience with either? I definetly want a system that I can use infant to (as long as possible). I love the idea of the 360 degree option with the Orbit, but there are always pros and cons to both. (or recommend your is it's different!) I'm a first time mom, so I'm new to all this! I have a new mid-size SUV, so I don't forsee space being much of an issue. Aside from the obvious safety and comfort of baby, I mostly want convenience, moderately light in weight (able to cary up and down stairs if ever needed) and ease of use. (along with any other features I'm not yet thinking of) Thanks for all your help in advance!!
Re: The ever debated...
I have both and I prefer the Orbit! The only thing nicer on the bugaboo are the wheels IMO. The Orbit system was a lifesaver during the first year and now during her second year, we are loving the toddler car-seat rotation feature since she is still rear facing. I have a Lexus RX 300 and they both fit fine but the Orbit has a small foot print. One of the main reasons why I like the Orbit, apart from the rotation, is the quality. Our Bugaboo is not used nearly as much and is completely faded, and has a hole on the bottom of the stroller seat. The Orbit shows no sign of wear except that the wheels show that they are used. The Orbit is a little higher than the bug in terms of seat placement. The bug steers a little easier because it's an attached handle bar. Orbit has a larger canopy too, but we have a parasol for the Bug which can extend the shading capacity. About the carseat, I am tiny (now 95lbs ) and had no problem carrying it around, although many times because of the proximity of the garage and our apt, I would just snap it onto the base.
Overall, we got the Orbit because of the awesome carseat, we did not want the Bugaboo because we didn't like any of the compatible carseats . I love that Orbit sells everything that you need and you don't need an adaptor for anything. We decided we needed a second stroller bc we live in NYC and park our car in a garage which is 2 blocks away, so it's not always convenient to go to the car to get the stroller. We thought about getting a second orbit but I decide to get the cameleon because of the wheels., and I guess it's just something different. In terms of $$, they are both similarly priced. Orbit comes with the stroller seat or carseat, but you'd have to buy the bassinet. Bugaboo comes with the bassinet fabric which uses the seat base.
ETA: The fold on the Bugaboo is TERRIBLE!!! I need DH to unfold it whenever we do fold it. Since it's a stroller kept in the apartment, we don't fold it often but still. It's horrible. Orbit has a one handed fold!
I have an Orbit as well and I LOVE it! I have a mid-size SUV as well and the rotation feature is wonderful, and has saved me from a ton of back and shoulder pain. I can put the seat on the base and then twist it so my LO is RF. If I decide not to take the stoller I can turn the seat to face me, unbuckle LO and take her out with ease-no weird bending or twisting.
Hubby likes that the handles on the stroller are adjustable. He's a whole foot taller than I am and we can both push the Orbit comfortably. We also have the additional panniers for extra storage, however, we only use them when we'll be out for the day and need them.
You can definatley get a lot of use out of the Orbit. The infant car seat goes up to 30lbs or 32 inches--heaver and taller than a lot of other infant seats. Everything is interchangable so there's a ton of versatility to the system. Right now we're looking at gettting the stroller seat since my LO is almost 5 mo old and is wanting to sit up more and be more involved in her surroundings.
I would go with a Bugaboo over the Orbit any day.

Do you have either?? It's easy to speculate when you don't own either. I also thought I'd like the Bugaboo more but I like the Orbit more.
We sound like the same people! lol How do you find the Bugaboo fold? Did they update it since 2010?
OP, be aware of people that have never touched either of these strollers. They give their opinions based on what they see online or what they can imagine.
I'm a Bugaboo gal. I did look at the Orbit but I am pretty small (5ft 3, 115lbs) and found the Orbit too big and cumbersome for me. I also didn't like that the baby felt so far away form me.
I don't have a problem with the folding aspect and i am generally technically challenged. I watched to video a few times and practised.
As for the car seat, i got the Maxi Cosi Mico which has one of the highest safety ratings and has been popular in Europe for many years although I think it is fairly new here. The Mico is also stylish and compact and very lightweight.
I also have both, well 2 of each.
I have the g1 orbit and g2 orbit, both infant seat and both toddler seats, with the g1 bassinet. We upgraded to the g2 for new baby, and got the toddler board to DS. I still prefer the g1 chassis to the g2 chassis. We also have the toddler car seat, which is also a PITA.
The rotating feature is not all its hyped up to be, it just okay IMO.
We have 2 cameleons, one stays at grandparents house.
I would take my CAM out over the orbit any day of the week now that DS is 2.5. When he was a baby he HATED the orbit car seat, and we used the bassinet when using the stroller
IMO the CAM has a better push, when we go to the mall I always take the CAM. I think it is easier to maneuver , the orbit is so long.
We used to take the orbit to places like the zoo, but now we just take the BOB.
the downside to the CAM, is after you get spoiled with the orbit fold, the CAM can be a PITA.
We do! I personally think the Bugaboo fold is so easy. Lifting the frame is better than any other stroller I've had. I am going to give the Cameleon to my parents in August and get a Cameleon 3. The changes seem minor, but I want it and they love my Cameleon so I figure why not. I do have to say that I don't care what the Orbit seat weights. It's easier to hold because of the handle and I'll take safety any day over not using a little extra muscle.
Umm what safety issue are you referring to? We were saying the orbit carseat is built with more safety features than most. If you are referring to an age old mistake about the installation, that was the dumb folks over at consumer reports fault. It was pretty easy for us to install correctly.
ANY car seat is safe, as long as it fits your car, fits your child, and you use it right every single time.
My dad used the peg Perego adapters with the CAM and never had an issue when he watched DS. Once you get used to it, its not that big of deal.
You need to try the orbit in your car, it DOES NOT fit in some cars very well, that means it is not safe in that car. The orbit also has higher strap slots than most seats for newborns, DS was 21 inches and just fit. It he was small that seat would have been unsafe for him to come home in. Straps must be at or below the shoulders for rear facing.
And yes, I am a CPST. Let me know if you have anymore questions!
If you're a CPST then I'm sure you understand that statement is misleading. Yes, they're safe. But, some seats are SAFER. Just like some cars are SAFER. They all pass the same testing, but some go above and beyond others in way of safety. I'm just pointing this out because that's like saying all cribs, all car seats...everything is created equal and it's just not the case. Some are better.
I agree with the original poster here. They all pass the same test. Its a pass or fail kinda thing right?
