protein dishes your LO enjoys

So DD has never been a fan of purees especially pureed meat and veggies.  I can get her to eat veggies if they're mixed with fruit, but she is eating more and more table food these days.  She usually eats eggs in the morning and eats lot and lots of cheese and greek yogurt so I know that she's getting protein, but I would like to try more chicken/turkey/meat.  What are some dishes that you prepare that your LO likes?

  • DS eats just about anything...he likes meatballs, sausage, and chicken....we do chicken with different marinades for ourselves then give some to him. For the meatballs, I buy the frozen ones and heat those up and sometimes I'll mix them with pasta and sauce. DS also eats pork...a lot of times you can get premarinated tenderloins at the grocery store...when we make it for our dinner, we cut some up for DS as well.

  • Cottage cheese

    Shredded chicken

    Meatloaf

    Hamburgers

    Lasagna

..... Basically she likes anything she can feed herself

  • Our LO eats a lot of what we eat.  If I make tacos, then he gets Taco meat.  He really likes that.  He also likes plain grilled chicken and grilled or broiled fishes like cod and trout.

Because son goes to daycare part time  and his grandparents take care of him while I work, I pre make all his food. Chicken, turkey, beef, pork, and fish and the first time I usually combine with sweet potato or carrots & with other veggies. He also likes tofu which I usually cook with chicken broth.

  • thanks ladies!  I have tried a lot of these.  Tonight I tried giving her pork loin that was so so tender.  Once I put it in her mouth she chewed and ate a few pieces, the thing is, you would have thought I was torturing her.  She fought me tooth and nail.  She usually does this until she realizes she likes it, but not the pork :(  I wanted to try deli meat so that's a good one.  I also have tried raviolis that have meat in them and that went over well.  Thanks again.

  • We're doing a vegetarian diet. Some of the proteins that we've given her (in case you're interested in non-meat options): tofu (the easiest thing is to smush it up and stir it into purees, but if you want finger food, you can either coat it with crushed cheerios, cook it so it's firmer, or buy pre-baked tofu-- they have great stuff at Trader Joe's), cottage cheese, yogurt, shredded cheese, lentils, egg yolk, tempeh. I have some soybeans that I'm going to try next, probably as a puree because soybeans might be hard to gum.
  • 90% of our babies protein comes from tofu and beans... chicken/pork is usually difficult for him to chew.  He does seem to like ground turkey more than ground beef.

I'd really recommend the firm tofu... it has very little taste and is the consistency of an egg white. If I'm in a hurry, I just cut it into chunks and serve cold. Otherwise, I usually just warm it in a skillet with some Mrs. Dash seasoning.
